Hi guys - I'm now awaiting my fourth Damaskeene I have the following: 2x Standard? GEM Damaskeene - GEM Cutlery Co New York USA/Use Only With GEM Damaskeene Blades 1x Later? GEM Damaskeene - GEM Brooklyn New York USA/GEM Damaskeene Blades [Similar to GEM New DeLuxe - Lined Handle] 1x Earlier? GEM Damaskeene - GEM Safety Razor Corp Brooklyn New York Made in USA/Use Only With GEM Damaskeene Blades [Different font ... same as Every Ready RADIO & GEM Made in Britain] So, my question ... regarding the open comb Damaskeene, is that actually stamped GEM De Luxe on the back?

Paul, my open comb Damaskeene is the same as Tom's it is stamped "Gem Cutlery Co." I do know that there was a Gem de Luxe razor that is an open comb with a 1912 style head. The later de Luxe model was changed to a closed comb. This OC Gem razor has "Gem de Luxe" stamped on the back of the razor's head. The Gem de Luxe is (at least in my experience) very hard to find.

Sorry for my ignorance but would like to ask the experts if my Open Comb Damaskeene is a deLuxe version or not if you can tell from the pictures that is. Anyway the shave is very mild. Thanks for looking. Greetings Snuff The GEM de-luxe is a slightly different razor to the open comb Damaskeene. I believe I can just make out the words GEM Cutlery on the back of the frame of your razor, if that is the case then it is a Damaskeene OC. If it were a De-Luxe it would have De-Luxe stamped on the back of the frame and nothing at all stamped inside on the blade tray. Your razor should have the word Damaskeene stamped on the blade tray. I do not own a De-luxe they are far from common so I cannot offer you a comparison in shave between the two razors, I do own an Open Comb Damaskeen and I , like you find it a very gentle shaving razor but a great shave, I find my 'normal' Damaskeene to be a bit more aggressive and I prefer the way that razor shaves, but somebody else will say the opposite, just another YMMV thing! Regards Dick.

Pictures - Gem de Luxe on the left, open comb Damaskeene on the right: Back view: The de Luxe does not have "Pat'd 1912" around the handle mount like the Damaskeene and other 1912's. I'm guessing that the "PAT" under "Gem-de-Luxe" is short for "Patent Pending." Both are excellent shavers, although I concur that (surprisingly, given the open combs) they are a touch less aggressive than a closed comb Damaskeene. --Bob

Thanks guys! What confused me was the handle I think, read a post somewhere where the de Luxe had the same handle (with stropper) as my Damaskeene OC. Still waiting on my closed comb Damaskeene to arrive, hope it's a bit more aggressive, the OC is really mild.

It isn't really visible in the pictures that I put up, but both razors do indeed have the same handle (which is the same handle as yours). Later model Damaskeenes have a different handle.
