I found this Ever-Ready 79 at an antique store recently, it had no price sticker so the owner said I could have it for $3 if that wasn't too much. I told him it wasn't. I replaced the original knot with one of the new TGN 20mm high grade boar knots, which I think visually is a very nice match for the color of this handle. I polished it with Mequiars PlastX plastic polish, and filled in the lettering on the bottom with Testors model car paint. The lettering on the ferrule wasn't painted originally so I left it alone. I assume the bottom was probably originally white and has darkened with age, which I really like a lot. I haven't used it yet, but I'm sure I'll like the 20mm version of this knot as much as I like the 18mm I put in a Made Rite handle. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for an unbanded boar knot at a great price. Anyway, here's some before shots: And here's the finished brush:

I'm not a "brush man". I have one brush. I could get "a thing" for these old Ever Ready bases, refitting with synthetics. I like synthetics.

My friend, you have found another beauty who had lost her way and had been ignored and forgotten by society....and with your talented vision you've worked your magic once again and brought her back to beyond her original beauty and made her productive and capable of enriching our lives once again.... Bravo Tom....I know by my verbose rhetoric it sounds as if I'm being a bit " tongue in cheek", but not at all....I have so much respect for your beautul restores and your choices of candidates to restore.... I applaud you sir....and thanks for the Brush Porn....

I actually think it looks better than new if the base was white back then. Well done! It looks newish, but classy.

I have always liked your brush restorations Tom - and this is no exception. You have a great flair for matching the knot to the handle. There really is a balance I think, and your brushes always have a comfortable feel, for lack of a way to put it.
I always enjoy your brush posts!!
(and....shhhh.....but, the brush porn too!) : )

Thanks again! After three uses I'm really happy with this knot. It lost 8-10 hairs the first day, but none since so hopefully it has settled in and won't shed any more.
