I read it was Napoleon who commissioned it ... but yes, for the Hungarian Cavalry to cover the smell of horse sweat. It covers human sweat very well - I keep a bottle with my fencing kit and have a "lucky splash" between bouts at competitions.
Very floral ... very floral indeed, and that's about it. No musk, no moss behind, just the flowers. I suppose there's a bit of green behind the scenes; the stems? Fragrantica show musk as a dominant scent, oddly. Perhaps it's there but heavily masked by the floral notes and dies off, happy to sit behind the green. To my nose, anyway ...

Yep, I've heard it was rumoured that Nap was involved with the Veg being invented...There is some controversy and then Eduard said, Napoleon III actually ordered it....Could have been both were involved in one way or another....And Queen Victoria made Eduard Pinard the Royal Perfumer...there is no controversy there.... Doesn't matter....Pinaud products "Rock"....so I guess if I'm going to be verified "Pinaudian Crazy" I should at least check out the Veg.... Hmmm...maaan....looks like I'm gonna have to place an order, and soon....I remember you saying somewhere else that you always use the "Veg" at Fencing Comp's.....I always wanting to pick up Fencing...Think the Veg would help prepare me for the task... };

The clubman is much more the classic barbershop scent to me. It does not really compare to the special reserve. Different stuff all together. On another note thumbs up to the veg.

So...I believe I remember seeing the 'Veg" in my Pop's Favorite Barbershop when I was a kid. Do you see the Veg as a Barbershop Classic or is that a totally different frag aswell...Does Clubman walk away with the Barbershop Scent Crown uncontested...ha,ha..

I would not put the veg as a barbershop scent. That is just my thoughts. As for other good barbershop scents I think the lime ones are great! Lime Sec and the citrus Musk I think it is. Also along those lines the Clubman musk is outstanding as well.

Absolutely - the Veg is floral and, on a bad day, medicinal...

Thanks Fuzzy....I have been hearing alot about Citrus Musk.....hmmm
Today, after shaving I splashed with the Classic Vanilla to check it out by itself....and, I really dig the Vanilla...What a great scent, the Epitome of Classic Barbershop...Then I couldn't help myself.....I splashed on the Special Reserve too...The SR has me smitten..... I'm afraid, I might be developing an addiction for the SR.....I gone from not sure of to can't leave home without it in a week.... It does knock me out though....and it layers great with the original Clubman aswell as the Vanilla...
Man.....at the rate I'm going....no matter what AS I use I still have to use the Special Reserve....Hmmmm, I wanted to try the "Veg"....What do you think? The Veg and Special Reserve Mix?.....Nah! That might disrupt the local weather patterns or something...lol

OK.....Box arrived yesterday....I had a very important Jazz Duo gig at a Classy Wine Bar & Club in a very upscale part of town....Definitely not the right place to be smelling like a Cat Box....But......I shook the bottle good, popped the cap and splashed some on my forearm. Figured I'd wait 15 minutes before breathing....ha,ha...
Well the scent is strong, so I noticed it immediatly and its fantastic....A big powdered Lilac scent, great right out of the bottle....Then I sniffed the bottle and it smelled good right out of the bottle...
So I shaved and splashed liberally and went to work...I figured if Paul wears it to fencing competitions it would fit right in on my gig.....all through the gig I would catch a whiff of flowers or lilac powder from time to time....very nice...
I think its great, it definitely reminds me of something from my past....like my Pop's favorite Barber Shoppe and there was a Col. At the Pentagon when I was a kid who asked me to walk his dog sometimes....I'm sure this was the powdery smell I remember his house smelled like....I always dug that smell...He also was friends with Ian Fleming and Ian would send him Floris 89 all the time. He gave some to my Pop...So he was a classy gent who was into powdery fragrances...So this would of fit right in...

Haha! Beauty! You're a Veg man, then I have heard it said that folks who sniff the bottle never try it because of the urinal cake smell, but once out of the bottle and on the skin it's another scent altogether. I like it as a precursor to a good splash of Trumper's Eucris EDT - I think they go very well together, the Lilac giving the mustiness of the Eucris a little more and the Eucris bringing the whole gang to the fight! I just thought I'd mention Eucris, what with talk of Ian Fleming and all ... Also, I work with a chap who claims to be related to Ian Fleming. Obviously, we laughed and put it out of our minds but I caught a picture of Ian Fleming out of the corner of my eye and thought to myself, "what's Mike got to do with Eucris?" ... and then I could see it so clearly. What a throwback!

You know, when I first splashed this....I was thinking...People who dog or maybe I should say Cat-piss this must be crazy....I don't see it....It's just Powdery Lilac.... But last night I splashed before going to bed.....I was fighting a cold and had an ear ache and sore throat and thought a healthy splash of LV might pick up my spirits and make lying there waiting for sleep more enjoyable....It worked, it changed my whole dynamic to like, laying in a lilac filled heavenly cloud....Thanks Pinaud....8 hours later when I woke up I did detect a slight questionable scent on my hands...I think its related to that wet soil earthy greenhouse vibe....But I got up washed mt face and resplashed and all is good....:^)
Someone said Regular Clubman and Lilac Vegetal layer very well together....I tried it but 15 min. Later it's just LV anyway....LV is that dominant, it refuses to be pushed around....I might have to check out Eucris. Sounds interesting...

For fun I put a splash of LV in my palm with a splash of Aqua Velva Musk....then splashed my face.....it was GREAT......I think its a little of what Paul's talking about....The Lilac Vegetal works good with Musky scents....although It works great by itself aswell....

Amusing ... it was commissioned (if written history tells us the truth) by Napoleon for his cavalry to mask the smell of horses. You'd think it would just walk all over a musky scent. It seems to with fencers
