Double edge? In a single edge forum? Well, yes ... Has anyone seen one in the flesh?

I have some single edge Micromatic blades (with that new fangled central hole thing!) and they really are the best of the best.
I wonder why reversible SE blades didn't catch on?

I wonder why reversible SE blades didn't catch on? Don't know, could it be that their being spineless caused problems in using them in other razors than the Micromatic? Or maybe they simply were more expensive to produce than the standard SE blades...

They would have fitted perfectly in my Wilkinson Sword Double Edge Safety Shaver from something like 30+ years previous ...

I had read about these in Waits, which shows them being introduced in 1932, but I have never actually seen one. Doesn't look like they would work in a 1912 type razor. Here's an ad (from Waits): --Bob

Double edge? In a single edge forum? Well, yes ... Has anyone seen one in the flesh? Why sure these blades would be on an SE forum. Technically, the razor exposes only one edge of this SE double sided blade. I don't believe that made any sense! I've seen a few pop up on the bay and NOS too. Never been interested though with the horde of modern Gem blades available.

Yup they were just for the micro matics. I think I have a few of them somewhere... in the packed away stuff. Since they were made to work in the MM they are not really a DE thing

Wouldn't the spring be pressing squarely on the middle of the second edge if one of these was loaded into a 1912 or Streamline?
That wouldn't be good.

And I'm very pleased to report that this blade gave a great shave after palm stropping. Sharp and very smooth: Just goes to show - don't fear NOS!

I'm still unclear on this. If the spring is not touching the non-shaving blade edge, then what is holding the blade against the blade stops?
