Here is a question a friend recently asked - and for which I really have very little idea. Keep in mind he is a bald as bowling ball. 'What could I use for shaving the head?? I use a cartridge now.' I just sort of stared at him for a bit! Then said, dunno. Any knowledge or first hand info I could pass on??? (I have seen those head razor things like little cars with cartridges - do those work?)

Send him over to www.slybaldguys.comI was a regular there back when I used to shave my noggin. I always used a cartridge razor, the Personna Magnum M5 was my favorite, but I also used a Mach 3 and a Trac II. Using SE or DE was just too time consuming for me, but a lot of guys use them.

I hear you can use most anything with practice. I would think a good mild Schick would be great.

For a short time I shaved my much less than bald head and I really liked the OCMM. I stopped shaving it, but not any reason connected to the razor or result. I simply need hair to keep my metal framed glasses off of my skin or I have a reaction, and that isn't fun. I did consider leaving strips of hair right above my ears to get 'er done.

From experience I strongly suggest a cartridge or maybe a disposable like a BIC Metal or BIC Sensitive.
I had my head shaved for about 5 years using a cartridge for 4 of them. Went to a DE and SE for the last year and really ended up nick and cutting the side of my head so many times that I just decided to let the hair grow back. Now I have a pony tail and have not cut my hair for over a year. That is saving some money!
Still I have a reverse mohawk so to say but I very carefully use on of the Injectors to touch up the middle of my head when I shave.

One of them there Nawthen radical hippy type things huh.... oh wait .. I see those all the time in the casino on hill billys and such.. SIGH.. I was thinking that a injector is basically the closest thing to a disposable. I simply will not recommend a plastic cart thingie for anything... not even shaving a pig. (I have a friend that helps his nephews and nieces with there show pigs for 4H)

I looked at head shaving as a chore that needed to be done as quickly and efficiently as possible, and for me that was with a cartridge in the shower. Like Possum I have ponytail length hair but my wife hates ponytails so I just let it flow...

And I may be a northern hippie in your eyes, one without much hair, but at least I'm not like those southerners who only have two teeth! ;D ;D I have tried the injector to trim the hair on my head and they seem to work but still I get the best results from the "plastic" razor.

Yup. The tooth brush was invented down here. Else it would have been called a teeth brush.

"What does the bald gentleman use for shaving?" NOTHING, HE'S BALD!LMAO!! That was a good one! Oh, you mean what does the head shaver use? Grin.
Well, I'm pretty new to SEs but I've been head shavin' for over 12 years. I've used my 1912 several times and it's such a nice gentle shaver it works great as long as you pay attention to the basics -- no pressure, proper angle, good prep. In DEs I've used Techs, EJs etc. but my favorite is my good ole Slim set on 1. Now that's a good head shave. I've even used straights on occasion. Might need to touch up a bit for awhile with a cart, but no big. The expensive carts last forever and a day when all your doin' is touch ups.
One thing I do love about SEs for head shaving is that you can place two of your fingers on the back of the large razor head and it works well as a handle. Better than those ridiculous "head blades".

Really good point there!! ;D I was thinking that after I wrote out the guy was bald. I was wonderin hmmm........ There are some great comments here guys - thanx a lot. It does seem to run the gamut form cartridge to a little DE to Schick - quite a spread. This is really helpful for me and very much appreciated. Thanx All!!!

I use the little yellow thing with wheels armed with an Atra cartridge for a quick first pass, then switch over to a Flying Wing Bullet Tip mostly used against the grain.Final result is ultra smooth with little to no irritation and doesn't take long when I'm awake enough.
For my head shaving style closed comb works faster and more efficiently than open comb.I don't head shave with a light touch and get better results that way.Something to remember is that the skin surface up top is firmer and compresses less than that of the face.I think that whatever's contacting the skin surface other than the blade is stretching and compressing it a bit allowing Hair to be cut closer to the the root resulting in a smooth shave.
The Bullet Tip's proved to be the best razor I've ever used for head shaving.

Recently I've been having great luck with my Schick Adjustable Injector (Set on 9, I just leave it there). I've noticed that when I let my head go 3 days I have a lot of trouble mowing through it with about anything. Seems like the razor gets clogged up in the center and I start getting "lines" of unshaved hair. This doesn't happen much with the Schick Adjustable Injector. Good stuff. Really is easy to get behind the ears too.
