A beauty! Yours I suppose? If so how does it lather?

Yeah, mine (now).
I really don't like badger and have practically forgotten how to get them to work, but it made a reasonable job of a couple of test lathers - one with cream, one with soap.
I had every intention of removing the badger knot and dropping a synthetic in, but for its age, the hair is very good, not at all brittle and it has a pleasing bloom. I'll run with it as is for a while and perhaps re-knot it in due course.

That's a very nice looking brush.
Any idea when it was made? It looks like it was made yesterday.

I didn't know that you are not a fan of badger brushes, we have something in common! Your brush looks like something out of a jewelry catalog. It looks like the handle is a bit beefy.

That is what I call a Guest Bathroom brush. Looks great on the vanity. I bet it lathers great too!!

The actual handle is 32mm square and 50mm tall, the knot is 20mm by 55mm high. I guess badger fanciers would get a good lather out of it, but I've been synthetic for a good while now and rather got out of practice. Little backbone for pumping, doesn't seem to pick up soap as well and the whole thing gets too wet ... but it is a great looker Age? I'd put it some time in the '50s. Here's a question, though ... Has the description of the grade of badger fur changed over the years? This brush is marked "Pure Badger" but it is a lot softer and a lot floppier than other pure badgers I've used and seen, feels more like and acts more like a silvertip. The post-rinse bloom is more like silvertip, too.

That is an awesome looking brush, also coming from a non-badger person.Paul, my understanding is that the early brushes were marked as pure badger to indicate that the knot was made exclusively with badger hair. They sometimes mixed them with boar and other critters, and some were stamped as "badger cased" which has a boar center and the outer hairs were badger.
I think the current classes such as pure, silvertip etc is relatively new.

That makes sense, Tom - I thought the use of the word "Pure" was less a classification and more an assurance.
Little update ...
After fondling this brush a little ... yeah, you guys fondle your brushes and don't say you don't ... the knot fell clean out! The underside of the knot had a sticker on which itself was glued into the handle. The paper part of the sticker had given up its structure and so the knot came clean out.
Providence, I'd call it ...
En route from China are a couple of synthetic knots - one older technology, which I'm quite keen on for this brush as it's a vintage; one newer tech, a PurTech. I'll see which I like the look of the most, but in the meantime, another handle has taken my fancy which will need a re-knot and I think the older tech knot would look great in that, so it does look like this will have the PurTech now. This one is more of a face latherer, clumsy in a bowl, so the shorter loft and bouncier fibres in PurTech should be just right.

Lord! This is a saga that's going on and on ... The second of two knots which I had earmarked as choices for my Lucite Ever Ready handle arrived today. I tried them both out and decided I liked the older technology style from Ian Tang over the PurTech from Virginia Sheng. Anyway, that went by the by when Yodel man arrived with a couple of brushes I've been waiting for and after cleaning them up, re-boring and smoothing out, I decided I liked both of these knots in these handles ... so, my Lucite Ever Ready is still hairless. Providence, I believe. I'm being told to rise above my plebian instincts and give that aristocrat of a brush the knot it deserves: a silvertip. ... and so, I'm now on the hunt for the best 20x55 ish silvertip.

Right! I've had it with this handle ... it's got a 20mm silvertip in and it's going to stay like that ... ... probably won't use it, tho' because I don't like badger. Shame. Nice handle.
