I was not impressed when I used it last summer. I was just starting out with traditional shaving so my lathering skills were definitely not Jedi level so perhaps it's actually better than I remember. However, I'm not in any hurry to try them again.

Sorry Fuzzy, can't help you on this one. I really have no need for it cause my FAT, Tabac, Trumper's Rose, and several TSD soaps meet my needs. And of course I do have a used puck of Williams I can fall back on in case of emergency!

I have tried a couple of these pucks Fuzz. I find them rather similar to the VDH - in fact pretty much the same - although someone may well give me heck on this comparison.
I have tried the bay rum scent and it is quite nice. I tried the almond too and it was good.
I think you should pick one up and give it a go - they aren't too costly - perhaps double or a bit more than a VDH - and then you can comment here what you think.
In Canada, the Col Conks are pretty much one of the only pucks easily found because there is a chain of knife stores that sell some wet shave stuff (dovo mostly) and the Conk pucks, and lately Taylor of Old Bond creams.
I definately give them a thumbs up from my experience.

Years ago, before there were on-line stores I would use Williams, Colgate, Old Spice, etc. At the time you could still find them in drugstores and grocery stores. As all of them slowly went away I could only find Williams. I love Williams but every now and then variety is nice. The only place I could find any wet shaving products was at a chain of knife stores (just like Rocketman). They sold Conks so I tried it. The soaps were OK, but pricey. They were all glycerin based. I used the Bay Rum. I can't remember trying any of their AS products except their Lime. Did not like that at all. Smells to me like a lime lollipop. With so many other selections available now, I just haven't considered buying them again. Just my opinion, they may work better for others.

I use them from time to time, but I have very hard water so YMMV applies. I also will admit that they are one of the soaps I sell, so I am a biased source, by definition. That said, here's my honest opinion of them...
In my experience, Conk soaps are a good value, and give me good shaves. They offer absolutely top notch slip, and decent scents (especially for the pricepoint). On the downside, they are a bit harder to lather ( at least in hard water), and tend to dry out a bit faster than more expensive soaps. Face care is also excellent. If you want an inexpensive soap that performs decently for some variety, or to introduce a friend to shaving, I'd say pick a puck up sometime. If you're expecting it to beat your favorite Top Shelf European imported soap, you'll probably be disappointed.
TLDR:
Slip: supurb Scent: good Cushion: fair Price: excellent Longevity: fair

According to the manufacturer, their Bay Rum scent is by far their most popular, which matches my sales figures, as well. I've only tried the Bay Rum scent, but it is pretty good and doesn't irritate my skin. YMMV, of course.
