Anyone use Ted Pella GEM Single Edge Carbon blades? How do they compare with the Gem Blue Star blades? Are they the same blades?

Hi, Think you may find plenty of info in " Blade World" section of the Forum.

I find reviews comparing the GEM Personna SS blades and the PAL blades, to their Pella equal. I find SS blade uses commenting on the Pella Carbon Steel blades. However I do not expect those who prefer the SS to be positive about the GEM Blue Star blades nor the Pella. So I am trying to find regular user of the Blue Star that has tried the Pella Carbon Steel blades. If there is a review please link me to it or give the title. I am not finding it.

The bulk carbon blades are not popular for shaving. That is how I remember it.

Best injector blade pricewise....big bang for the buck....Maybe not a better blade as NOS Schick Plus Platinums or NOS Personna 74s....but still just as good as any DE blade I've tried and better than most!

I have a couple 74s left and have not noticed a difference between them and modern Personnas except for a little better life.

Very cool to hear....it's been so long since I've used a 74 that I remember they were great but I can't make an honest comparison between these two....I mean its been like since the 70's....ha,ha..

Update, I ordered the 121-1 GEM® Carbon Steel Blades, box/200 3 facet blade. The shave like the Treet blades. It is not as smooth as the Gem Blue Star. It give a good cut and very happy with them. As always, YMMV.

GEM PTFE blades=$0.03 a use. (7 shaves a blade) Carbon steel GEMs=$0.04 a use. (2 shaves a blade)
Not bad. Definitely not bad if you can get more than 2 shaves out of them (which I can't). I can get 14 shaves out of a PTFE GEM but they aren't as good as the first 7 shaves.
Now let's wait to see if someone can be a guinea pig for the carbon steel injector blades they also have...

I get more shaves from a single edge blade. The only razors I get two uses out a blade is DE r41 and a Futur on setting 6. The blades dull very fast for me on those razors. I use a Gem Micromatic Open Comb and get between 5 and 9 out of a carbon steel blade with shaves 1, 2 and 3 being the closest. After 3 shaves the 5 o'clock shadow comez sooner. Once in a while I get 12 shaves from one blade. 200 blades will last years for me. I am not big user of the Gem SS blades because the first shave is never as good as the first two out of the carbon blade for me. The thing I like about the Gem SS blade is on first use, it is very rare to get a bleeder or cut. The big plus is the blade does not drop off in sharpness as fast. It hold steady over the life of the blade.

A couple of people on here get 20+ shaves from a carbon steel blade. They strop them. I still have no idea how I only get two shaves. I even palm strop and oil the edge and by the third shave the blade takes me to Tug City. Not that surprising since by the time I am done with my first shave the blade has black spots all over.

Must be something in your air/water/skin chemistry causing rapid corrosion. I love carbon steel blades, including NOS carbon steel injector blades. They agree with my skin much better than the stainless although I can only get 6 good shaves from either.
