Does anyone have a reference or knowledge of what type of gold plating was used on the D type - e.g. 8K, etc? I am thinking about having mine re-plated and would like to restore it to the original finish. Then again, taking it down all the way to the brass may be the way to go.

I'm not sure I've seen a reference to the karat rating of plate on a Schick D model. I imagine there may be original advertisements indicating the gold quality. Most razors, even the Gillette's don't say much about the plating other than calling it gold. There is reference made by Appleby to the 1946 Eversharp Christmas models having either 24k plate or 14k gold filled handles. But I am not certain which Eversharps he is referring to specifically. I have not seen either one. It is a good question. Perhaps someone has an advert for a Schick D who could help out. The D was the first introductory injector in 1936 so there are likely numerous ads.

I've thought the same thing about ads but no luck so far finding anything. The hunt continues.
Also, if anyone knows if these are solid brass underneath or brass plating please weigh in. I've polished mine down to what I believe is brass but don't want to go too far in polishing it in case it is just brass plating. Thanks all!

I found this advert in some older files I had kicking around. It is the 46 Christmas model and not the D, but relevant to the hunt. I guess I had seen one after all. : )
