Well, I did it ... I sold a straight and had the ready money kicking about so I went ahead and bought those five brushes to colour match my Deluxe sets. Red, Blue, Black, White & Grey are on their way. I also have a lovely dark brown Art Deco styled bakelite brush to join the recent brown case find. I'll have a run through them with their respective brushes next week I wonder if I should stick to the same soap for the week. Yeah, why not ... now, which soap?

I will, Marcus, I will ...
As you know I am a big fan of the 1912 and that is quite obvious with my extensive collection of 1912s, not least this little sub-set. I'm really excited about this. My Deluxes and their associated brushes. £10 a brush, I imagine they'll be akin to PurTech. Huge fun! If they're rubbish, I dare say they'll get re-knotted ... probably with Silvertip fibre.

Finding those won't be easy.... this sounds like a job for our fencing cavalero....the Scarlet PJ........ What do you think? Could this be a new 40's style radio action hero for the Wet Shaving Crowd....?

Just a teaser ... The whole lot arrived today: blue, red, black, white & grey. I'll put together a picture of the full set when I've dug everything out - tonight, it's Guinness, Guinness and more Guinness, and I'm wasting valuable Guinness time on this silliness. Another day.

Hehe! I am really giddy about this ... ... and one with a dark brown interloper at the side: As for the brush, the knot itself is not as soft as Muhle, let along Plisson/Plissoft but it is related to the Plissoft in terms of appearance and how it is dyed. Consider it a lesser quality Plissoft and with that, it is actually more authentic. Immediately, it felt like a silvertip badger - that soft of slightly scratchy/grabby tips that silvertip has, gel-tips I've heard them called. It also has a sort of vintage feel, like when you get a vintage knot and it's dry feeling, possibly a little brittle until you get it in water and get some soap on it. In use, the brush loads up effectively and is a joy to use. The loft is just right for good backbone and much less springiness than many synthetic knots. Many synthetics get around this by reducing the springiness in the fibre, which equates to a soft, floppy knot in use - Plisson, for example. Muhle got that compromise much better. This knot feels quite different to both and as I said above, it does actually feel more like a real badger in use. For comparison, the brush on the left (the dark brown Deco brush) has a Muhle Silvertip Fibre knot.

I'm just one away from it ... if there's a cream case out there, that would be perfect as I have a lovely Mohawk brush that would match. I wouldn't mind the different brushes for the weekend, the run of five for the week.
I'll be running through these next week. For the 7th, I could go with either a heavier handled British 'Brilliant' set with the same handle or an uncased light handle ... or maybe Streamline Sunday, since it's from the same era and appeared on the same advertising.

21st March 2016Bulldog Face Wash Wickham's Super Smooth (Unscented) Haryali Silvertip Synthetic (Blue) Face Lathered Ever Ready 1912 Deluxe (Blue) & GEM Stainless (1) Single Pass - WTG (Slide) Hot Rinse, Cold Rinse & Alum Wash Witch Hazel Toner Old Spice Aftershave Jacques Bogart One Man Show (Gold Edition) EDT Pinaud Eau De Portugal Hair Tonic ... and we're off!!! Beginning a run through my Ever Ready Deluxe sets and their associated coloured brushes. I have blue, red, black, white & grey as well as a brown case, with a different brown bakelite brush to come. Good shave. First run with a GEM blade can be quite harsh, but this excellent razor from the late 1940s into the early 1950s tamed it well.
