Yeah, It's FUZZY!
RM, I'd probably try it.
Enablers... My brother accuses me of being a bad influence on him. I freely admit it, what are brothers for? Plus it gives him an excuse and someone to blame, I use him for the same "out".

Brian’s posts in this thread jogged my memory on something I hadn’t thought about for decades: State Liquor Stores. I grew up in Yankee Land (MA) and can remember folks going across the border into New Hampshire to buy booze (hard liquor) at the NH state liquor stores because it was much cheaper than buying it in MA due to the numerous local taxes. If I remember correctly it was the only place you could buy hard liquor in NH. I think that they did away with the state stores in NH years ago.

Alan NH State liquor stores still exist. www.nhliving.com/stateliquorstores/It's been many years since I did business with one, but I thought they still existed because there's an ad running on TV that states "... and buying your liquor in Maine... (helps the economy or some such)". At one time Maine State Troopers would park in the NH liquor store parking lot and take down Maine license plates, then they'd wait for them to cross the border back into Maine and pull them over. NH found this out and kicked them out. It was always a good stop on I95. One could save lots of money by stocking up when down there.

Couldn't be better timing being St Patty's day and all. Green is the theme! Let the games begin! (thnx Bird - my possible hangover could be your fault! )

Well, that is a very lovely scotch. Nice and smoky/peaty which is a flavor I appreciate in scotch. It tastes like the malts in the blend are original bourbon barrel aged also, which again is something I appreciate. I am not particularly enamored with the newer trends to cask scotch in port or sherry casks - the old US bourbon casks rock out the best stuff. I found that I preferred this slightly warmed - something which I find at times can really mellow out the flavor into a cohesive taste. Nothing strange, just hold the glass closely with one hand (even held up against me big old belly) and cover it with the other until it warms from body heat. I learned this idea from Jim Murray who publishes the Whiskey Bible when he was at a tasting event I attended in Vancouver. My wife is a fan of this technique too. I know another fella who likes to chase those darn snakes out by adding two or three small dribbles of 'warm' water. (Think of a cold red wine - it just flattens out something awful and tastes like sh+t regardless of the quality). So, that said, I just can't do chilled/cooled scotch at all anymore - unless it is a cheap blend and I'm trying to scarf it down. So, Bird, nice suggestion. I definitely enjoyed it and would likely buy it again. Now - just need to rob a small bank and buy the Johnnie Walker Blue.

Glad you dug! You're right, Green Label was perfect for St Paddys...
I did a back to back with the Blue Label.....Personally I liked the Green Label better 2 to 1.... If you want to pay the big bucks, you can do no better than Lagavulin 16...and thats $165 cheaper than the Blue....
You still need to try the Glenfiddich 15 Solera....thats between $75 and $85....Thats one I prefer a little warm.....
Hey I'm with you on the Body Temp. Dram!! A great Single Malt I almost always prefer a little warm....except when the alcohol level is 45abv or above, then I. need to "chase the snakes"...lol! Also if it's a strickly mixing Whisky....Then bring on the Sprite, Ice and a few mint leaves....lol!
PS...you know...I'm definitely no Scotch Snob....I can live with Glenfiddich or Glenlivet 12 year olds...But always neat and like you said, held in a two handed hold....body temp...I'm glad a heavy weight scotch cat, like Jim Murray endorses that...I thought I was a little perculiar....lol!

You, Tom, Fuzzy, Alan, all you cats should have burning ears.... When I HAVE to get a hotrodded 1935 you'll feel your enabling ears burning off!!! Ha,ha...

I was wondering how long it was going to take for someone to realize I was full of "manure" and call me on it! Yeah, we're all pretty good at creating the spark and then pointing the finger. Hey, what are friends for right?
I hope my scotches are delivered before we get to the liquor store tomorrow. If not I'll be making a special trip into town on Wednesday and I don't really want to do that.

I hope so too...And I hope they can score the Teachers...Between those three, I'm pretty sure there should be something you really dig...Maybe all three!...They are all good...
And even those single malts at your prices aren't bad....And White Horse I believe has the highest Single Malt content of just about any Blend. It's from the Islay region so it's very smokey and peaty. Don't open it near a smoke detector...lol!..and MS is a blend of only single malts...In that respect it is the most similar to the Green Label that RM tried...Only MS is only 3 single malts, it's Scotland's only Triple-Malt, and they are from the Speyside region, so it is very smooth, fruity, very nice actually, very similar to the Glennfiddich & Balvanie it's made from. And the vat that they are blended in is always kept half full...so some of the scotch in there is much more than 12 years old...from a molecular perspective, some of it is 20 years old...}8^D
Really looking forward to your Tasting Commentary!

The liquor store called a bit ago. I didn't talk to the woman, the wife did. She just told me that all 3 bottles came in. Neat! (exactly!)
