Gentlemen,
I'd like to announce that thanks to the help of various folks on here I've finally had not only had a great shave, but this very morning I had the best shave of my life.
I've tried various SEs: G bar, 1912s etc. and had ok shaves but nothing compared to what I get regularly with my DEs. Thanks to a combination of PIF'd blades from a member on here (you know who you are, thanks again!!) my having the good fortune of picking up a user grade OCMM, and Shadowsdad patiently explaining to me the use of an aggressive SE, I had the shave of my life this morning.
The recipe for me was this:
Hot shower/face prep OCMM Razor Gem Stainless Ted Pella Blade Trumper's Sandalwood shave cream Thayer's Super Witch Hazel Krampert's Finest Bay Rum
I had a great 3 pass shave that resulted in BBS with several weepers that were my fault. Other than the weepers -- perfection!
Now I'm all fired up about SEs. I'm a convert!! Thanks everyone!
John

John, when it comes together for someone it makes it all worth while. That's what it's all about.
Now I just need to get you to accept some p.160... ;D
BTW, thanks to helping you I picked up the OCMM myself for the first time in a long time and rediscovered an old friend. I've been away from it for far too long with blade testing and a small project that I'm working on. So it works both ways my friend.

Man, what a razor. My beard is barbed wire and grows like corn in July but I hardly need a shave this morning. I'll work one in though....smile!

The Micromatic is possibly the most efficient single edge razor available, glad to hear it is working so well for you. I havent used an MM in awhile, may have to haul one out soon.

HT, I respect your opinions on most things SE and agree with 99% of them but I draw the line when you hold the Micro"Junk"omatic so highly. I find them just worthless and would rather shave with a sharp stone or piece of glass than Micro"Junk"omatic. Just my two cents worth. I will never again own one. Now on with the discussion of some fine vintage LCs.

I was waiting for the castiron matsupial to chime in right on time. You'd think that as old as he is he would have learned how to use a fine tool such as the OCMM. No such luck.
I too see a OCMM shave in the future VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!!!

Also be warned any further attacks about me and my age, experience in life and my absolute distaste for the Micro"Junk" omatic will get you banned from this board for at least 1 week! ;D ;D ;D

OK, so no one exactly called me wise for poking a panther with a stick... Possum, at the risk of banishment for a week, have you tried a bullet tip? Same superior shave, but a much more sophisticated feel to the experience.

I like these guys! They are fun-ny guys!
Glad your Micromatic setup worked for you, John! The Micromatic is a curious shaving implement from my perspective, but it makes quick work of the whiskers.
Never tried shaving a possum with one, though. ;D

I appreciate this razor hasn't worked for you Possum. But maybe you are not using the 'Guiding Eye' quite right??

Same superior shave, but a much more sophisticated feel to the experience. He might use one to hammer in a nail, or unclog a toilet, but definitely not for shaving.
