Now there seems to be 3, yes 3, companies with a new GEM style razor about to be released with a 4th company stating that they plan to make one eventually. There may be even more that I can't think of right now. In fact, I'm pretty sure that there are at least a couple other companies that have mentioned a GEM razor in their future plans.
Today I saw a video from the Big Shave West where Stan from Above The Tie revealed his GEM razor. Blackland razors has also announced a GEM razor that will be here in a few weeks and priced the same as the Blackbird which is $185 I think. Finally, I believe that Chisled Face Groomatorium has shared their GEM pro type but I'm not sure when they are to be released.
Many have heard Colonial Razors say that they plan to make a GEM razor but I'm not sure when that will happen. I also think that Rocnel and possibly Jürgen Hempel could be working on a modern razor that takes unmodified GEM blades.
While I'm excited to see all these razors coming out I must say that none of them are making me throw my money at them yet. I'm still too pleased with my OneBlade. Yes I have to remove the spine to use a GEM blade, but that takes all of 2 seconds and my shaves are phenomenal.
I know many here have shied away from the Artist Club modern SEs but I'm curious how many will be more willing to try one of these designed around the GEM blade. What say you TOST? Yea, or nay???

Indeed. I made the drive up the freeway today to attend The Big Shave West 3 and got to look at and handle the new ATT. The price will be in line with other ATT offerings, and they will likely start accepting pre-orders in a couple of weeks. If the ATT seems a little pricey, Phoenix Artisan Accouterments was showing this prototype: It's made of aluminum and they're shooting for a target price of $25. Two most enjoyable hours of looking at products and talking shaving, along with 6 hours of fighting traffic - what a day! --Bob --Bob

Meh. I think No now that I have seen them. I will stick to vintage.

Now that the market offers less expensive models of SE using artist club blades, I got some of them, but the main driver was that I wanted to try that type of blade, and I couldn't do it with any other SE (I'm not considering trimming the blade). But as for these new razors using Gem blades, I will check on them out of curiosity, but I guess I'll stick to vintage as well.

Good point. The Artist Club blades have the reputation (well deserved, in my opinion) of being some of the sharpest blades on the planet. A razor loaded with one of these is an awesome weapon of mass (whisker) destruction. And the only razors using these blades are the current crop of razors made for them.
Sure, it's possible to cut down an AC blade to fit an injector, but this risks destroying a pair of kitchen shears, not to mention slicing off your thumb.
The Gem blades are also pretty good, but there is a huge assortment of readily available razors that use them, most at very reasonable prices. These range from mild (Featherweight, G-bar, Pushbutton) to moderate (1912's) to aggressive (1914, 1924, MMOC). With this kind of variety there is likely the perfect razor already out there for just about any face.
While it's nice to see some new razors using these blades, if they can't out-perform the vintage models then what is the point?
I'll check them out in the hope that just maybe one will blow me away like my Cobra, Asylum Rx and General did . . . and really surprise me.

I'd echo wchnu's thoughts ... vintage works, vintage works exceptionally well and vintage looks better.
Of the two, the PAA is more in spirit of the older types (what is "that other thing"?) and not actually a bad looker, compared. I still don't think I'd buy in ...

Think I'll wait before making any judgement or spending any $$ on one of these. They might be great, who knows? Let's wait and see the actual product and get some reports.
Besides, I'm on a No Buy '17 on another board and plan to stick with it.
