Tom, that looks like it would whip up a great lather in no time. I'll have to look for something like that out here in 'rado.

If I bowl lathered that'd be what I'd look for. It just seems like it would work better, and if it doesn't it can still be used for grinding seeds.
Good snag!

Very nice find HT. It is important to have some sort of ridge action or roughness in a cream bowl, but I haven't found too much to suit. That looks like it would do great for aerating cream! I wonder how the brush tips would fair in the long run, but I definitely will be looking around for a similar one. Hopefully some of the ethnic shops around here might have one.
Thnx for posting!!

I'm gusessing the ridges could cause more wear and tear on the brush, but the layer of protection provided by the lather may protect it some. I rotate through so many brushes that I doubt it'll matter that much.

It works very well, here's what I used this morning. Grated Tabac and a vintage Erskine badger with the original knot and a Micromatic Clog-pruf. Here's the brush after about 15 seconds of loading. And here's what I got after about a minute of gentle swirling and pumping lather building. I always start with a teaspoon of water in the bowl, that's usually about right but occasionally I have to add a few extra drops with some soaps. The lather was very thick and I had plenty for two passes.

HT,
You got 3 of the 4 things for a great shave right. The Tabac. The Erskine Brush (love the looks of it by the way). And a new bowl that is a bit different. But the razor, well, you would have been better off with a sharp rock! ;D ;D

I got a fine shave with the CP, a fine shave. Even with a 3 shave old CVS carbon steel blade.

Instead of starting a new thread I'll update this one with my latest bowl. Found this one at the same place, also $1. You can see the ridges a little in the picture. No idea who made it or what it was originally for, the only markings on it are the initials TEW on the bottom. It works pretty well, but the much sharper and more defined ridges in the suribachi work better.
