So after my buy last August of a Heljestrand Single Edge set with three blades I searched for someone knowledgeable to hone the blades for me to shave ready status (I didn't want to ruin them trying to do that myself) and a strop to maintain them. I was lucky enough to find a great guy, a friend now, that makes strops, hones and makes restoration work on straight razors: Jose Antonio - Proyet. So without further ado here are my heljestrand blades ready and able to be used this next wednesday on my birthday SOTD! Stay tuned, I'll update you guys after the shave if the blood loss isn't critical enough to stop me.

Congrats on finding someone to help you out with your blades. I am looking forward to your shave report.

I have had better success using a paddle strop. I find a hanging one to be too unwieldy to comfortably strop on, especially as these blades benefit from a lot of stropping. Well, I have an Allegro for that now, so whatever. But this one is just perfect: Straight Razor Designs Lynn Abrams Modular Paddle. You might find this contraption useful (and extremely cheap) for blade maintenance: pasted balsa strop. Personally, I use a thin strip of foam rubber on the balsa wood, coated with a fine metal polish (Elsterglanz, which is like Maas or Flitz, only less abrasive).

Now I want an Allegro too hehe Is it the L model?

It is positively not the Model L. It is the Model E with K11 extension. Nothing else will work. Good look finding one. You can see mine in this thread. Mind you, the blades for the Simplex will not work in any Allegro, because they are too wide.

I'll keep the Allegro Model E in the radar but I understand that it's a very rare item to surface.

Those blades and razors are a lot of fun. A shimmed GEM blade works too. Not nearly as smooth as those sharp blades. I wonder if José Antonio would sharpen a Henckels and a Wusthof blades that need some restoration.

I'll keep the Allegro Model E in the radar but I understand that it's a very rare item to surface. As I said, "good luck". The Allegro might be a bit easier to find, but I have seen mislabeled ones pop up on auction sites (ie the relatively common Model L sold as an E - but even if you find the E, you will need the K11 extension, otherwise you will end up with a shiny toy). The Simplex seems to be even more elusive. I have seen pictures of exactly one other. You will probably start your search here, but you will need a proxy in Sweden, as most sellers do not ship outside the country.

I hope you enjoy the shaves wit your set up. They should be very good.
I have had success stropping as a bench strop with a standard strop by laying it on a table with some cushion added by using kitchen rubber roll out stuff.
That white strop is lovely. Very good looking canvas strop material too. I've not seen white on a strop before and rather like it.
