New guy asking old question I am sure. I have a few ptfe blades from try-a-blade and like them, and I have a box of what I guess are carbon blades from CVS that rust but initial shaves are passable. I have seen mention of PALS and GEM blue blades and Ted Pella's. Is there one blade hands down the best choice?

Hands down the best blade is the one YOU like best. A lot of guys love their carbon blades. For me, personally, they didn't shave any better than GEM stainless blades, didn't last as long, are difficult to get in Europe and cost more. So GEM PTFE are the best blade for me, but there is only one way to find out for yourself... try them all...

I like the PAL's best just because their are a dark color and different then the rest. As for your blades rusting you need to take the blade out of the razor after every shave and dry it off. You should get your full use of the blade before it starts to rust on you. Here is a link that breaks down the blades better that I could ever do it.

I am a Carbon Steel guy. I find the Coated SS rough for the first few blades. A new PAL or Treet is smooth from the start. They are all about the same really. The PAL is a blue color and a favorite of mine because I use to be able to get them local. Now a days I find more Treets. The CVS is basically a rebranded Treet. Stay away from any SE that is made in Korea by the way. They will not scrape hot butter.
After a shave with a CS blade pop it out and dry the razor and blade. With the thick spine it is easy to do.

They rust right before your eyes practically. Speaking of the carbons. I halfheartedly dried the carbon blade after the first shave and two days later it showed signs of rusting. I rinse in hot water and dip in 90% alcohol and then dry now. Seems to help the rust issue.
