I've been happily cutting stubble with my G4 for a couple of weeks now and I really like it especially compared to the Ever Ready face munchers. I like the lack of bulk and the maneuverability, the G4 has a much smaller head than an unmentionable too. So with that being said why are there sooo many models and clones of the various unmentionables and only a few flimsy and IMHO shabby knock-offs of late model Schick Injectors? I would think that cloning any of the models D through I would be something that would have a fine chance for being a marketable product. Patent infringement shouldn't be an issue, so what gives?
Also as an aside, did the Soviets ever make an injector?

If I had to hazard a guess, it would simply be that Gillette held the market on unmentionables. When someone holds the market, there is ample room for others to to try and get in on the profits. Remember, Gillette didn't invent the actual razor, but rather the way to mass produce blades, that's where the real money was, same as now. I suspect that there simply wasn't enough demand for the single edge stuff for companies to even really fight for the few dollars that would be made. Just my humble opinion though

ordinaryshaver, I thought that the Gillette Safety Razor handle was King C. Gillette's invention, is this not the case?

Also most prefer the unmentionables over real razors. Just my thoughts!

ordinaryshaver , I thought that the Gillette Safety Razor handle was King C. Gillette's invention, is this not the case? At first, yes, however once the patent wore off, then he had the brilliant idea to patent the blades. The unique pattern of holes in the unmentionables are because of the patent wars that he was in, at least that's what I've always been told. In regards to the original question, I suspect it may be partially due to the difficulty of blade manufacture.

@wchnu, well real or imaginary both give me what I need, a nice clean shave! And if we are gonna razz any type of razor shouldn't our animosity be aimed at Cartridge System unmentionablerazors, since they most certainly deserve the scorn of any sane person looking for a great economical method and superior resulting shave.
The vintage thing is a bonus as is hunting for esoteric shaving gear from far off places i.e. the Russian and FSU (former Soviet Union) stuff I am enamored with. To each his own... but remember GAS and RAD can cause much woe (and nagging from our female companions).

I like twin cartridgesunmentionables more than SE and DE and they are economical too. Injectors over all though. Everyone has their preference.

SE and Injectors are real raors...every thing else is inferior. There are some unmentionables that I like to shave with though.

Gillette style unmentionables are easy to make. Design them in your CAD software, throw the result at a CNC machine and polish (optional). Done. Injectors need a spring to allow the head to open slightly, so a new blade can be injected. This is impossible with stainless steel. Why don't people make razors from sheet metal anymore? Lack of knowledge? Lack of imagination? Lack of cojones? (And anyone mentioning "manufacturing tolerances" lacks all the above)

As for making some out of sheet metal. You need stamping presses and the ability to design and make progressive Dies to make them. I guess the people that are capable of doing this are not into wet shaving. Too bad for them and us. There is no secret to making a razor. First priority is to make sure the blade is fully supported to minimize flex. After that it is only limited to your imagination. Now everybody get out there and make your own razor. It is actually really rewarding and fun.
