mayer57619 asked this in the SOTD thread. I could not find a thread on it so let's start one. Do you find the curved top 1912s shave better then the flat top models. Petsonally I like the curved top on my Dammaskeenes. I do not find they change the shave any. What say the Y'all?

Good point. I can not really tell a difference in the shave with bevel or no. But did not think to add that into the question.

I don't think it matters, I don't actually ride the cap, but very close to it. Ride the blade?

I used to think I liked the curved top better no question....But now I'm thinking it doesn't matter....But you know.......The last Dammy I got was one with the top like Fram is talking about and that perticular Dammy was the best shaving Dammy that I've had.....And the 1912 in my G3 kit is a GEM Junior and thats maybe the best shaving 1912 I've had, and it has the Bevel....
So now I'm afraid til destiny changes my mind...I'll have to go with the Flat-Top!

Almost forgot about the 1912 with the really exaggerated round top that looks like a 1914. I hate that one as much as the 1914. All others are decent shavers. With the ER 1912 a bit rougher than the GEM1912s.

How on Earth would it make such a difference (serious question)? The frame, and particularly the cap contributes so little in how a Gem bladed razor performs (compared to a DE), this strikes me as the shaving equivalent of audiophilia. That 1912 has massive blade exposure rivaling the 1914 and 1924

The 1912 does not have massive exposure. From your previous posts on this topic it is clear to me you are confusing exposure with cap span/blade reveal. Because of the Gem blade's rigidity cap span is not the factor it is in a DE razor. One can get a great shave from a wedge blade razor and a Gem blade with no cap at all. See Henckels below. Semantics. All I know is it doesn’t shave the same because it isn’t the same.

No two razors are the same, not even two 1912's. Blade exposure is not how much you can see from the top, it's how much sticks out beyond the cap and the guard.

We'll have to agree to disagree about the differences, to me they are negligible in terms of shave regardless of configuration. I'll accept that some believe they can tell the difference between an Ever Ready and a GEM 1912 in a blind test, I know I could not.

Who needs a cap anyhow?
