I have 2 Schick F-Types en route. I've polished nickel and other alloys before using MAAS and a soft cloth. However, I'm not certain what the copper-toned spring head of the F-Type is made of.
Appleby's guide says, "copper and alloy head" but it also says, "spring and cap integral, of brass."
So is it just copper or is it brass (copper/zinc alloy)?
What's the best (and safest) way to polish it?
Thanks!

I have decided to not polish my F. I would use brass polish though for the head.

I would just use soap, water, and a toothbrush,... that is likely all it needs. If the surface is already compromised beyond being just dirty, then go for the polish, you have nothing to lose.

I have decided to not polish my F... Why? I like the look with a natural patina. I polished some silver plated razors, but the F will stay natural.

I feared there was some detrimental aspect causing you to avoid it. I don't know the level of shine vs. patina on the 2 I have coming, but since there are 2, I may yet leave 1 untouched. Thanks.

You will see the thing is built like a Sherman tank. I do not think you will hurt it any way it goes.

Then move to finer and finer paper. 10 micron or so. As this is cast Aluminum you will not be able to remove all the casting imperfections. After the paper you can move on to the polish. It will deliver a very nice finish. As for the spring. If the gold plating is intact take EXTREM care there it will come off just looking at it. If the gold plating is gone. Just polish the brass spring. It will be nice and shiny. Have fun.

Sorry just the spring is plated. But gold? Waits nor Appleby mention that. What plating is over the brass spring then? That sure looks like gold plating to me. If I am wrong please correct me. I would love to know what the spring is plated in.

Maybe I should say Gold wash, not gold plateing.
