That's pretty cool. The only family stuff I've found have been a couple half full plastic traveler bottles of Old Spice AS from my grandpa's place when we helped him remodel. I don't even know if I can truly call them "family" since when I asked about them he doesn't know where they come from. He said he never could stand the smell of "that crap" (I forgave his lack of scent since I got to keep the bottles ;D) His house has always been open to just about anyone needing a warm place to stay, so I imagine they got left behind by someone at some point in time.

Funny story there. I feel lucky to have so much.. I can start a family section on a shelf.

I have a brush, mug and straight that my wife thinks her dad used. Definitely the brush and mug but the straight she is not sure.
He was killed in a coal mine accident when she was about 3 so I never knew him and she hardly did.
Anyway, had the brush reknotted and gave the razor to a barber that cut my hair and gave me my last straight shave before he retired. I wanted him to try to sharpen the blade but he said it was not worth doing. The razor and the mug now sit on display in my curio cabinet while the brush is in my rotation waiting for me to pass it on to my son-in-law when I leave this world or get to senile to shave myself! ;D

I am thinking about refurbing this brush. It would be a small, about 18mm, knot. Does anyone have any ideals on how to seal the handle or if I even need to bother??

You could have it stabilized with acrylic. I asked one acrylic stabilization outfit about it and got no response. Basically, AS turns the wood into plastic.

Much better. It impregnates the wood and turns the wood into acrylic.
Google it.
I did hear rumors that it could warp wood that has water in it and I was looking into the process for a LC handle. But your handle should be fine since it hasn't been used, by the looks of it, in many years.
You'd want to fit a new knot to it before the process so that you wouldn't need to fight the plastic afterwards. Be sure it has the sanded finish you want too. You might need to buff it when it's returned, but that's only speculation. You'd need to research it.

Cool !
I don't think I ever got any family stuff,I know I shaved with a black handled DE for several years and don't remember buying it so it might be my Dad's....Last time I saw it was before moving to our current location,I hope it's packed away somewhere.I'd love to find it.
The only family items I have are from my Wife's Grandfather who left behind a couple of old DE razors, turned out to be a nice score, one of 'em is rhodium

Hey Possum!
If you'd like to send me a pic of that straight I can get a pretty good idea if it can be sharpened. I'll be glad to hone it up for free if you're interested? Let me know.
