That is indeed a very interesting razor!!! This is a Sheffield made razor and apparently it says somewhere on it 'cutlers to his majesty'. If not right on the razor, it was the 'motto' of the Thomas & Turner Co. of Sheffield who designed and manufactured this particular item. There is an interesting conundrum here though - because between 1901 and 1910 the 'majesty' was King Edward VII who sported a very famous beard!!! This razor itself looks very much like it would have been early 1900s. Maybe the razor the King never used? (The only other possibility is that his mother, Victoria, used the razor? Also, successor to Eddy 7 was George 5 - who decided to sport essentially the same beard as Eddy. These guys though had 'royal barbers' who would tend to their beards daily and likely weren't using an Encore - although ya never know!!! Last possibility, they provided the dinner forks!) History aside, this razor has a very intriguing wedge blade lather catcher design. A great razor really! The two piece handle suggests a little patent robbing from Kampfe (or even earlier German engineers), and is likely dating it past that by a couple of years, but the spring clip or whatever that is, suggests some original thinking - thinking that was never repeated as this may be the only razor with such a spring clip. Nice razor. Thanx for the post!! I love the case too!!

Yeah it is interesting. What you can't see in these pictures is that the handle fits though a hole in the lather catching bottom half and appears to "click fit" to the bottom of the top plate. No screwing mechanism! I wonder how secure it would be. Nothing like a wobbly handle/head assembly to get an interesting shave! It would be nice if someone here on this site gets hold of it.

I was wondering about a solid fit. Great looking tool though none the less.

Yeah - well, I was out muscled early on for this one. I was waiting with baited breath, but it became apparent with an hour to go that it was going to sizzle. Nice razor. Should have been mine. He seems to sell mostly postcards and string. He will be disappointed with the Wilkinson Empire he is unloading. But, he can buy mama some donuts from this one!

Wow, a cashed up SE shaver/collector exists? Never heard of them. Although both you an me know of someone with a 20K DE collection, I don't think he's that interested in SE.

I've tried to get him interested but SEs, unlike DEs haven't got the provenance to make them attractive for collecting. I mean, there's no accepted name for some of them and you can forget about accurate manufacturing dates.
However I think they are some of the best and most interesting looking razors out there.
