Wednesday Brush: Vie-Long Horse Soap/Creme: Proraso Sandalwood Razor: Schick G type. Blade: Chinese Schick Pre: 3P Post: Aqua Velva Hair Groom: Gables Cream-oil Result: DFS. I also should say that I really liked the way the whole kit synergized. the proraso sandalwood goes from good to amazing with the preshave, and that lather made for the first injector shave I've actually enjoyed.

Thursday AM 05-17-2012Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle Homemade frankincense & myrrh preshave oil Rooney 3/1 Finest brush Truefitt & Hill 1805 shaving cream Schick J3 Golden 500 razor Eversharp Schick Custom blade (1) Truefitt & Hill 1805 aftershave balm BBS in 3 passes plus touch-up. As much as I like my Somerset Simpsons, I have to say that I truly like the Rooney Finests equally well. Such great brushes. The 1805 products have become old standbys, very high quality and appreciated but not really loved. And although I do like the Hydro-Magic razors, I prefer the Schick M1 Adjustable, with its adaptability to my changing skin and beard conditions.

Thursday, May 17, 2012 Prep: Hot shower Lather: Mike's Natural Orange/Cedarwood/Black Pepper - face lather Brush: Simpson Commodore X2 Razor: Valet Auto Strop VC1 Blade: Gem PTFE (4); 3 passes Post: Cold water rinse; Krampert's Finest Bay Rum (reform) Oh my! What a shave. Except for a small patch I haven't figured out under my chin with the Valet this was my best shave ever. Changed my lather up a bit thanks to some chatting with Brian (ShadowsDad) and was rewarded with the densest and slickest lather I've known. Got the jawline smoother than it's been in a long time, but still not quite getting that chinny chin chin. Oh well, there's always tomorrow!

Gem Junior 1912 Gem SS/PFTE Blade (8) Made-Rite 500PB Brush C.O. Bigelow Cream Vi-Jon Ivy Club Spice
The Junior gave me a very close shave this morning. It seemed quite smooth while I was shaving but I've had a slight amount of irritation all day from it. I might go with the CP or the FW tomorrow as they're my "recuperation" razors.

Gem Micromatic Clog Pruf Gem SS/PFTE Blade (9) Made-Rite 500PB Brush KMF Mint Cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue
A wonderful healing shave today in contrast to the rather harsh one yesterday. The CP was as mild as ever and was enhanced by the cooling sensation of the KMF Mint. A splash of the Aqua Velva was the perfect conclusion to this close but comfortable shave.

Friday, May 18, 2012 Prep: Hot shower Lather: P.160 - face lather Brush: Muhle Black Fibre Razor: Valet Auto Strop VC1 Blade: Gem PTFE (5); 3 passes Post: Cold water rinse; Krampert's Finest Bay Rum (reform) Thanks to a sample of P.160 from Brian SD, I'm testing out a lathering technique while comparing two very different soaps. This was my first ever use of P.160 & I'll say it does live up to the hype. Best scent by far of all the almond Italian soft soaps. Superb skin conditioning properties and what a dense, creamy, & slick lather it produced. The almond scents are not my favorites (thus why I got so many of the new RR croaps), but if almond was my thing I would be stockpiling the P.160 like Johnny does with Floid Blue!

So John, how are your SE shaves comparing to your others now? Well, with the SE I get as close a shave as I do with the DE razors and blades, but I also still get a lot more nicks, mainly with the noninjector ones such as the Gems. I'm not completely convinced that I want to stay with SE shaving, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

Saturday, May 19, 2012 Prep: Hot shower Lather: DVH "Extra fris" - face lather Brush: Muhle Black Fibre Razor: Valet Auto Strop VC1 Blade: Gem PTFE (6); 3 passes Post: Cold water rinse; Krampert's Finest Bay Rum (reform) I used the strop I picked up for the Valet and I have to say that I noticed a smoother shave today compared to yesterday. I'm beginning to think that this is one of the best all-in-one razors ever made.

Saturday morning:
p.160 Simpson Commodore x1 best ER '06 LC GEM SS ptfe (2) Kramperts Finest Bay Rum
Today I saw something I've seen before but never realized what I was seeing before. I had some "floaters" in the sink. Whiskers held together by something invisible. The largest was maybe 1/4" wide and 3/8-1/2" long. Near as I can figure the '06 with the new blade is shaving so close that it's taking at least one layer of dead skin cells now and then. No irritation or burn though and no blood either, so it's just a very close shave. It was a great shave in fact.
I agree Brian, I like the VC1 quite a bit.
That's a nice bowl!
BTW, the KFBR covers up the almond scent in a heartbeat. Absolutely no clashing of scents.

Gem Micromatic Clog Pruf Gem SS/PFTE Blade (10) Made-Rite 500PB Brush Arko Shave Stick Pinaud Clubman
Enjoyed a very leisurely shave befitting the pace of the weekend. The CP performed as well as it did yesterday. We're going to a Turkish restaurant this evening to celebrate my daughter's graduation from college and my son's graduation from Middle School so I went with another Turkish favorite this morning: the Arko shave stick.
