So I see where 4711 is a Cologne. This one does not last as long. Smells great but not a lasting scent. I have noticed the same about Florida Water. I assume that the citris scents are like that. Anyone else notice the short scent profile.

I have had a bottle of 4711 Cologne for over 35 years. Only use it occasionally and do find that the scent does not last long. I like the scent while it lasts though.

It's been a long time but I just ordered another bottleI've heard tell that there's a fountain outside of 4711 that has it's marvelous cologne flowing in it. And 4711 Glockengasse is the street address and of course the city gave us our word, Cologne. and the site. 4711

These colognes are designed for light frequent use as refreshers throughout the day, and so have a slightly different place to aftershaves abd EDTs. I use Turkish lemon and tobacco colognes, and they're excellent for workplace environments where you want to smell pleasant without being overwheming.
And I believe 4711 was the number scrawled on the walls of the derelict factory by the army at the end of WW1.

Good to have a thread like this wake up ...
I'm an evening shaver, sometimes quite late evening. So many aftershaves lose their scent quite quickly, but one little test that seems to work is to apply some just before bed ... and unwittingly see is the scent remains in the morning. You won't be rationally thinking upon waking but very aware through other senses, smell being one.
I've woken to quite strong repeats of an aftershave that I thought was short lived.
So, to 4711 ... otherwise known as the original Eau De Cologne ...
Yes, the initial flurry of citrus appears to die down quickly, but I've had pickups maybe four hours later applied in the morning. I think Citrus is a short-lived scent anyway, something I find just a little disappointing about my favourite citrus EDT: Issey Miyake L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme. The lovely citrus seems to go almost immediately.
4711 is a lovely scent. Decant some into a spritzer and apply as and when the fancy takes you.

I use Turkish lemon and tobacco colognes. I know you've shown these before, but point to a source will you? There's a good chap

The Turkish supermarket in Exeter ...or ebay though only the lemon ones seem available there. There's also lavender, but I haven't found any of that yet... I also had some Mont St Michel Eau Fraicheur which is a great French 4711 copy. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Tapatalk

Well day two using it and I dig it! Thank you all!
So I had been searching for a scent that was a memory. How the men smelled when they came out of the barber shop after a shave and haircut. That's back in the '50's. Then they would get in their Caddies or Imperials and head out. Sharp dressed men (there's a song in there). Then the scent of 4711 hit the right sensors and bam, there it was, 4711 !

Well I liked it so much that I purchased the Super Mega Behemoth size. 27 ozs., 800 ml! It is huge. The F and the 48 give an idea.

Funny that this thread has come to the top of the forum. I answered early on in the thread, just a couple days past exactly 3 yrs ago. What amazes me most about this stuff is that I have used it about 5 times since that post 3 yrs ago. Now you know why I have had that same bottle of 4711 for so long.

I have the giant bottle of cologne, the aftershave, and a 2 oz spray bottle of cologne that is nice for travel.
Yeah, I like the stuff.
You want a classic? It's been around for 223 years, long before such upstarts as Clubman. It was originally marketed as a health drink.
The citrus scent is light and fleeting. "Bergamot, lemon, and orange . . . lavender and rosemary" according to the website (www.4711.com - worth a look). The aftershave and cologne are about the same strength scent-wise - the aftershave has some skin conditioners.
Nice ad campaign: "I am original. Are you?" 4711 is now owned by Maurer & Wirtz, those wonderful folks who bring us Tabac.
