The Micromatic series had a 19 year run. It wasn't aimed at a niche of sport shavers. The original MMOC had a 10 year run and was one of the best selling razors of the decade. There's nothing wrong or radical in the design. No law says you have to do an ATG pass with a blade as sharp and rigid as the Gem PTFE, with proper technique (skin stretching, flat angle, no pressure) WTG and XTG should get anybody awfully close to where you need to be. I do a two pass shave (combining XTG/ATG) with my MMOC, with no nick's, irritation, or complaints. I don't even perceive the MMOC as an aggressive razor. I do long strikes as ASR recommended. Good advise here.. I do find atg to be a lot more biting with the micromatic than my other SE razors. My damaskeene is no problem with atg. This razor requires different approach for some of us but it is a great razor once figured out. I also like carbon blades more with the original monochromatic so there are a lot of personal variables.

Got my Gem Blue Star blades. Amazing shave! Even went ATG. Nice, comfortable, smooth shave. I guess stainless blades aren't for me. Ill be trying them in the MMOC and MM soon.

Somebody around here said "A razor is a razor, a blade is a blade", I just can't remember just who right now. Someone also said if you've got a problem shaving with a particular razor or blade, it's because of technique, don't blame the hardware, whoever that was?

YUP!! that does not mean that you can not have favorites. SS are not my favorite. I do get just as good of shaves out of them though. Changing the blade will not really make the shave different assuming nothing is damaged.

Ha! Yes! The injector is my favorite SE razor. Always gives easy smooth shaves without all the technique needed. only the Gem MM's give me grief. Perfect example of YMMV. While injectors are easy I never get a really close shave with one. Acceptable, but not close enough in IMHO.

A blade is not a blade for the rest of us. Especially someone with such fine and delicate skin as myself. Bet you could shave with a wooden spoon and get good results.

It is all about angle and pressure. Look at what jayaruh did with that E2 that was eating up janobles2002. It is all in the technique.

Corking seems such a harsh procedure. I find that palm stropping helps. Be careful with that....Razorx told me too much palm-stropping can affect your eyesight!!
