I ran one of the wedge blades over my coticle today, water only, then onto the pasted balsa stropfor 20 laps, then 50 on leather... wow 😲 what’s fantastic, 129 y/o shave! Now I’ll work on getting rid of the devil’s spit on the blade and hone up the rest! Just curious, how are you going to go about removing the "devil's spit"? Hand sanding using different grits...dremel with light grits/compounds....bench grinder with compounds? I've done various combinations with all of the above, but only on vintage hand tools (e.g., axes, hammers, chisels) -- but I've never worked with something the size of and as "delicate" as a wedge blade.

I've done various combinations with all of the above, but only on vintage hand tools (e.g., axes, hammers, chisels) -- but I've never worked with something the size of and as "delicate" as a wedge blade. I’ll be doing these all by hand sanding with wet and dry paper. I’ll most likely start on a 240 grit and see how that goes, then progress right up to 2000 grit. Due to the size of the blade, I think this is the safest option. A dremel works well however there is risk (all be it low) of over heating the blade edge and ruining the temper especially using compounds and felt wheels. Two of the blades I have, the marking is well away from the edge, and so I’m not too worried if it doesn’t all come out.

Nothing much better then a wedge shave!! Yes sir! Now I’m revisiting all my other wedge blades, time for a quick trip across the hones and back into rotation!
