I was looking through the AutoStrops on eBay and ran across this. It was labeled as: Rare Vintage Gillette Gold Autostrop Division Valet Gold Ornate Shaver EUC. I noticed the Gem handle right off. Looks pretty good. Made me want to see if the threads do really match. Haven't gotten off my kiester yet to check though. Thought you guys might get a kick out of it. It is a BIN for $59.99, HA!. Click here to see the listing.

What a bargain! You can fit an Autostrop handle into a later GEM/ER with a 10,32 thread size BUT the GEM/ER handles are too wide and flared at the threaded end to clear the narrow space in the AutoStrop lever with the lever pushed down. You can screw in a GEM/ER handle into an Autostrop when the lever is pushed up but you won't be able to push the lever down then...so pretty useless. I suppose you could modify a GEM/ER handle by grinding the flared end to a taper to make it work but looking at this clowns pictures in the listing, he didn't do anything like that, it's just a stock handle.

I was wondering if that flange wojld get in the way of the lever. The handle does look pretty good on the AS though.

Guess the original owner thought the GEM handle looked better too. I know you already know this though... 😁

Any suckers out there want to buy a razor for 59.99 + shipping that you can only look at? I wouldn't pay 59.99 + shipping if it was usable.

Full disclosure: I wrote the guy and offered him $6 for it for the parts. He took the offer. I will let you know more after it arrives. I do have handles that will fit the head though. Andrew, it does say Gillette Safety Razor Co. on the top edge of the bottom. So, AutoStrop was Gillette's single edge division since 1930.

So I tried a Feather blade in my VC3. It doesn’t exactly fit with the Japanese letters. Any thoughts to help?

I only have a VC2 and a VC4, the Feather blades fit fine in those. I know the pin arrangement in some VC3'S don't match up with the Feather cutouts. I'm interested to know what modifications you end up doing to make it work.
