These are some beauties I bought of the bay. I have a Warner Jones stropper gizmo en route. We shall see what I can make of them. Stay tuned.

Are you current on your tetanus shots. That's just what I think of when I get a new-old-acquisition with a blade still in it -- and I'm not even trying to sharpen it!!!

Good luck! Please keep us in the loop as to how it works out. FWIW, there was a gent on the forum years ago (Marcus Clark) who sharpened the old blades. I don't know that he ever posted how he did it (maybe?), but I got the impression in back and forth emails that it was a variation on honing a Rolls blade using stones and such. If I did it today I would use a variation of the "scary sharp" method I used for my Rolls. That is posted somewhere on the forum.

So far I have worked on a well used PTFE, a pristine looking Corux, and those terrible looking Beau Brummell rust buckets. Only the PTFE is shave worthy to this point. I have a lot more trial and error left on the others. I can say that I think the effort involved far exceeds any chance of a miraculous outcome. Will continue to experiment.

As an aside, I am using Chosera 1K, some generic Japanese synthetic 3K/6K combo and a vintage coticule. I am using a setup that makes the bevel angle close on all stones (margin of error within a few degrees). Still a learning curve with the Warner Jones device but will try again with a bit more pressure on the 1K level. I can get them to easily shave arm hair but not yet to comfortably shave facial hair.

I will have to go back again and try my vintage blades again, just as a comparison to yours.

I used an Ever-Ready Radio Steel blade once last week. I now have four vintage SE blades I can use: Gem Cutlery, Damaskeene, ER Radio Steel, and Sha-Ve-Ze Blue Back.

What exactly are you trying to do with the blades?

What exactly are you trying to do with the blades? I believe that he is trying to see how well they shave vs. new blades. Either that, or making a small battleship
