Hey guys i posted this before about the 1912 Auto Strop. A Little different view, can't seem to get a decent shave out of the valet. It doesn't shave well for me even with a new gem blade .I read what Shadow's Dad said about adjusting the lever for aggressiveness. Got to stay in the stops, the whole angle changes.didn't cut good just scrape my face. Anyway i love the way they are built,I wish i could take advantage of the razor.I know they work for some guys. The feathers are to expensive for 3 to five shaves if it was for ten or fifteen shaves i could see for me to buy the blades.Anyway i have some of the original blades, but they don't cut, even after stroping the blades. Any comments would be welcome.

I am not clear which Valet you refer to by calling it a 1912 Auto Strop. Can you post a picture?? There is a post here theoriginalsafetytoo.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=d6&action=display&thread=94 with pictures of the various Model C razors, which started in the early 1920s. There is a Model A, the first razor posted here theoriginalsafetytoo.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=d6&action=display&thread=133 There is also a Model B - which we need to get a pic of around this place! I have had the most success with the oldest model - the Model A. It fits modern blades very nicely and is quite adjustable. The B has a slightly poorer fit of the blade for some reason but is ok. I have only used an early Model C, the V1, and found it ok. We need to open this topic up a little more perhaps - I keep meaning to get a better handle on the differences bw the B and A and how those compare with the Cs but, keep learning and forgetting!! Do you have a picture of your razor??

If you want the most aggressive shave, adjust nothing, just put the lever all the way down. The adjustment gets it to shave less aggressively.
Sorry, I can't help beyond that.
Have you tried a Feather SE blade?
That's it, I have nothing more.
Maybe post a pic of the razor head ready to shave and we'll see something?

It's vc1 c model like the the first model, out of the four on the other post. The gem blade sides in the clip with the spring. Maybe i misunderstood when i read the other post about the adjustment for aggressiveness .I did shave with the blade all the way against the stop ,just seem mild. to many passes to get a shave, The razor says 1912 patented on it.Thanks

It simply might not be for you. Shaving is such a YMMV thing.

I picked one up on the bay pretty cheaply a bit ago, and got to try it. I have to say that it impressed me. I love that I can nudge the aggression down slightly when I go atg, too!
