I normally get only 4 good shaves with a GEM SS coated blade. That's using a LC or a MM CP. It's been like that for years despite practice, lather, prep. I guess I have a beard of wire, well not just guess, my Mrs tells me so as well. Before wet shaving I would blunt the blades on anything, can't use certain SE or DE, disposable or even electric long. That's why I got into wet shaving using vintage razors, as at least the blades were cheap.
A few weeks ago I took a blade that was just too blunt to use in my MM after 4 shaves, and got another 3 shaves out of it in a 1912. Not any 1912, but a british made ever ready seemed to work with OK. I wasn't pushing and sure the shaves weren't really really close, but they were comfortable at least, something a blade that old in a LC or MM couldn't be for me.
This week I started a new blade off in the LC. Supreme shaves with no risk of cuts. Seemed a better idea to start with that as a new blade in a MM can cut badly if you go wrong.
So far this week, 2 excellent shaves in a LC to take the edge off a bit, now 2 shaves in a MM CP (really felt it's limits there, it would be time for the bin for that blade if I thought about another MM Cp shave using it). Next 2-3 days I'm going to see if it can finish out in the ER 1912 for comfortable shaves. If so, that's probably what I'm going to do every week.
Anybody else switch razors for any reason mid week?

I will rotate through several razors in a week sometimes. Usually move the blades between them. I have never tried to find a pattern that made them last longer. I will be checking back to see how this works for you.

If I didn't swap the blade I'd have about a dozen blades in use at one time.
