Tried my first shave with my nice cv heljestrand LC using a probably not sharp enough proprietary wedge. Had to stop mid face and continue with a modern Pella ptfe treated Gem Personna blade. Finished the shave, but wow was it a trial. Probably need to get the correct muscle memory going with SE shaving after shaving with unmentionables for so long. These SE guys are unforgiving!! I also suffer with a road map full of facial “potholes”, moles, age spots and other unsightly things. The SE’s really pick these up. I guess practice and expert advice will win the day. In the meantime, could anyone please provide me with a list of the more popular SE wedge razors, injectors or the like. Please no (unmentionables) Please include your opinion of their aggressiveness. I I have a pretty good collection of razors I want to start using and enjoying them. Thanks.

twhite put me on to the J.A. Henckels. jrshaving.blogspot.com/2018/01/ja-henckels-rapide-arrives.htmlI now have two. I guess I really do not need two. The first one, in the link, came with some wedges and a stropping handle. I have a second one that I got by itself that I made a case for. They are great shavers. They will take modern blades, too. Tom also sharpened my blades for me. I have been using the first one for the wedge shaves, and the second one I use modern Gem blades. It is a wonderful razor to have in the den line up.

I wouldn't just give up because of one or two bad shaves . However, to answer your question, I would need to know a few things. Do you like blade feel? What I mean is do you like feeling the edge of the blade cutting the hairs, or do you prefer less blade feel? If you like it( as many of us do) I would have to recommend either the MMOC or the MMCP ( Micro matic open comb, and clog proof ) Should you prefer less feel, then perhaps a push button or a Damanskee would be up your alley. Anyway, hope that help, and looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Thanks for the response. I have the razors you recommended and will shave with them soon. I will set a schedule and monitor every aspect of the shaves. I love this stuff!! I like blade feel. That’s the best way to tell if you’re technique is working.

Do you have something to strop the blades. This is of utmost importance in maintaining the blade. Tom

These are what I currently have in use. I also have some that are contained in sets. Wilkinson’s and Rolls.

I found using hanging strops with a bayonet quite awkward. They have a bit of slack, and I cut one of mine despite more than a decade of using hanging strops with cut-throat razors. You may want to try this instead: shavelibrary.com/w/Easily_make_a_pasted_balsa_strop. Unfortunately Straight Razor Designs closed shop - their modular paddle strop was quite fantastic, because it would allow you to swap leather and abrasive pads. But you could easily build your own four sided paddle by following the howto above.

As far as injectors go, I use and like a Schick G1 injector. Pretty good feel and easy to use.

Or you could just ride the cap!
