Subject line sums it up -- I picked this up in a lot of razors a while back, and I just got around to shaving with it today. I found a pic on another forum with people referring to it as a 1910 -- but I trust this forum the most and was wondering if I could get either confirmation or the right information. As for the shaves, I've got a Gem Jr Bar with fancy script and I really like the way it shaves, but this one I actually had a hard time finding the angle. Several times during the shave the swing bar caught on my face (guess I was riding the cap too much) and actually came up and slapped back down. Now this razor has definitely seen some life over it's 100 year lifespan -- between the plating loss and the mechanics being a bit loose, I'm thinking it may have gone to the front in WWI and then returned to WWII for some more action. It's also possible that the razor is fine and my Gem LC technique is rusty -- so I'm probably going to try a side-by-side shave with my earlier (or is it later?) Gem Jr Bar with the fancy script on the back. I'm also going to try using it with its original handle -- today's shave was with my very favorite handle, a Jayaruh wooden handle. The handle that came with this razor is on the longish side, metal (not brass) and in about the same condition as the razor's head. The pics shows a Micromatic with it because I actually did double-header: a GEMonday (Gem Jr Bar) combined with a Micromatic Monday. The Micromatic took over from the Gem Jr Bar after the first less-than-stellar pass and ultimately gave me a darn fine shave.

The tension on the bar might be just a touch loose or your angle may have been a bit off. There was always something about that particular razor that never made it continuously desirable for me, and I had a mint in case one.

I have several GEM Jr. Bars. They all shave great. I would guess the is a touch loose. Should not hurt a thing. As far as the time like I will have to take time to sort it out. I think they made dufferent grades and sets. The ones with more ornate marking shave the same to me.
