Happy Independence Day America!
Have your cookouts, but also let's not forget the price that was paid for our freedom, and let's not give it up freely to those who would give us a few dollars so that they can control us.

They left us a republic, but the question is, have we been able to keep it?

I have my flag shirt on today!! Well I hope you wore a Gadsden flag or a Pine Tree shirt, those are in the spirit of the Principles of '76 and the correct time period.

Alas, I wore a flag shirt today also. But for me it's more of an everyday shirt since all my outside worn t-shirts are patriotic in one way or another.
I need to acquire some of those rayr.

Well I hope you wore a Gadsden flag or a Pine Tree shirt, those are in the spirit of the Principles of '76 and the correct time period. I need to get some of those. It was a current flag. It's interesting to look at all the flags that were used in the New World during the colonial period and the Revolutionary War. There are some here www.americanrevolution.org/flags.php. There were even more after the Declaration of Independence, a lot of flags were home made so there were variations including early versions of the stars and stripes designs. The original July 4th festivities were in celebration of the Declaration of Independence, when the document was finalized and adopted on July 4th 1776. It was the day that the 13 colonies declared themselves as 13 independent states, severing all political ties to England. They weren't in fact truly independent states until the British were finally driven out. It's a shame that the document and the meaning of it's words have been overshadowed by myth, pomp and pageantry.
