I was following this auction quite closely and indeed placed a bid. I was hanging around for the countdown all ready to place a last minute bid as well. Then I started watching TV with about 20 minutes to go ..... and .... CRAP!!! It seems when I am there for the last minute bid there is always one darn dood with two bucks more than I have. When I miss the end, the stuff goes for hardly anything. Here I iz - kicking myself for missing this. www.ebay.ca/itm/230819648506?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

WOW!
I always set a timer. I've been known to get invovled with something and forget also. But never on something like that. That hurts to lose that!

They just didn't need too go more than a little more that you. Some serious collectors bid $100 more and take the risk as it's a bluff, and like you said, they only have to pay a couple of dollars more than what everybody else is thinking (can bite them in the behind though) When I was buying stuff, I always used www.jbidwatcher.com/Set and forget, it bids for you in the last few seconds even when you're asleep, working, or busy. It's not some magic cheat or whatever, anyone who bids early and high, or anyone else doing the same thing, if they bid more than you, you lose. Whoever is willing to place the highest bid after all wins. But means you can forget about following the auction completely, just set it and walk away. And you only bid once (your true true maximum), not showing your hand early. If you lose using that, it just wasn't meant to be... If you win, it was because you were willing to pay more than others, they still would have won if they were willing to pay more.

Ye - I have tried the snipe programs before but I kind of enjoy the last minute anxiety!! I do get the hang of bidding, but watching TV while it comes to an end kinda defeats the desire to place a last minute bid. Perhaps I should think about trying a snipe program again. Dunno though as I do like the ending!!!! It sure didn't pay off this time though.

Don't like the snipe programs. If you wanna bid hang around. Don't let the computer do it. Just how I feel.

If you have a smart phone, there is an ebay app that will give you a warning a few minutes before an auction ends.

Don't like the snipe programs. If you wanna bid hang around. Don't let the computer do it. Just how I feel. Yeah but sometimes your connection goes down, (it happened to me heaps). If it's on a web based snipe /watcher problem, one less thing to worry about. And like I said, whoever bids the most wins, in my opinion not an unfair advantage and I lost more than I 'sniped' and I wasn't willing to bid as high as others ended up bidding more the old fashion way or sniped themselves. I haven't bought anything shaving related from ebay for at least 2 years, so I'm not really worried about about the 'scene' there. The golden rule with ebay is bid as much as you are prepared to pay. Some people will bid as much as it takes to beat you as they have more money than sense. Between those people and the connection errors when I manually placed a bid near the end so I didn't get it in on time, I'd go for jbidwatcher every time.

With the exception of what I do at work, I'm pretty computer illiterate. One of these days I've got to learn how to use e-bay. My wife does well with it, but she isn't the greatest teacher. In regards to those NOS Gems, I remember a couple years ago there was someone selling them for about $25.00 a piece. Same handle and box.
