I think this has been done before but here we go again. I wonder how many here consider themselves an Economy Shaver. You can also throw in what you see Economy. Is it buying cheaper supplies..... or it is buying the more expensive things that last longer or work better for the money? New guys feel free to chime in here too.

HAH! Yeah, I started blade shaving to save money. That did last about a year, then it went all to hell. So I have to disqualify myself from the economy discussion.
I agree with your 2 paths to economy though. It's just that I'm on neither one.
I want the most comfortable decadent shave I can get and if that means using 3x more product to achieve the lather to get me there I do it. But a really good ultralather can be made with ARKO too and that's fairly economical.

I wouldn't call myself an economy shaver, and the hubby neither.
Other than the fact that we have more PC products than other brands has more to do with the fact that I make it so it's available. Plus the hubby and I both like the quality of it. I don't have arko or derby shaving cream or other inexpensive brands that I can think of.
Even if I didn't make shaving products I still don't think I would go for the cheapest I could get. I'd go for quality in scents I liked just like those non-PC products that I have picked out and use right now. Now don't get me wrong I'm not a high maintenance women! But sometimes in life I do choose quality and save the being thrifty for other things.

Not an economy shave to be sure. But then not the biggest spender either. I tend to go with middle of the road stuff. About the only thing that I could be considered "economy" in is the brushes. Only one bought new, the C&E BBB and it was cheap. My other 5 are either refurbs of old brushes or boars that are in great shape that I bought at antique stores.
For me, I got back to traditional wetshaving not so much to save money but instead to shave the way I learned and to be able to enjoy shaving again.

I don't mind paying more money for superior performance, yet I think I've learned that in traditional shaving that's usually unnecessary.
Less is more.

I'm definitely an economy shaver or as one might put it, a "cheapskate"! I'm always on the lookout for the best combination of products that actually performs decently for me. I've settled on the KMF creams, the Arko shave stick, and any of the Vi-Jon aftershaves. As far as blades go, there's not that much choice as we all know - but then again there doesn't need to be. Nearly all of the ASR blades seem to work quite well.

I'm an economy shaver too. I love to find inexpensive products that work! I love Arko, Godrej and KMF and none of my brushes cost over $20. Of course I don't turn down "the good stuff" when it falls in my lap... My generous brother seems intent on luring me to the luxury side with his gifts of soap and balms.

Greetings
I tend to think that we just kid ourselves about economy and use that word to justify what was many years ago just a morning necessity and what has now become a hobby!
We boast about how cheaply we shave and how this or that shaving stick only costs a few pence and then we spend thirty pounds on another two razors that we 'really fancy' but certainly do not need!
We strop a useless old blade to get just 'one more shave' and then send off mail order for a tub of shaving cream from the opposite side of the planet!
The real economy shaver has one razor, one packet of blades and when his cheap shaving stick is worn down to a quarter inch he buys another; I strongly suspect there is not one single person on this forum (or any other shaving forum) that fits that description.
It does however still give me a certain smug feeling when I get a better lather from a 50pence Palmolive stick then a £15 Trumpers puck!
Regards Dick.

I know of one gent on another forum who does pretty much as you write of Dick. But he is absolutely the exception.
I know of a few others who have 2 brushes (for instance) and consider that a huge extravagance. They simply don't have the $ to spend.
The first gent writes a SOTD post every day, the others post infrequently. So I suspect there are more than we know of, they're just hidden. They probably marvel that we love to shave and can discuss something so mundane in such glowing ways.

I've got 2 brushes,an old drugstore boar and a Semogue 830 on the way,5 pucks of $1.19 Williams and one bar of Mike's Natural Soap,a bottle of Krampert's Finest Bay Rum and about 12 to 15 vintage razors the majority of them pre 1930.I sold all my contemporary DE razors......stainless steel included, their performance to price ratio was unimpressive.
I'm getting the best quality shaves of my life and having fun with it.
The End
