It was talked about a while back on another forum I (pretty much) no longer go on to. I'm not too excited to try it if that tells you anything.
For VDH it's a luxury line, for everyone else it's just another VDH line. I suppose I'm just underwhelmed. BTW, I actually like and use VDH Deluxe in my rotation, but you wouldn't know about it from this post.

I really enjoy VDH but I wouldn't spend more on it unless the scent was different, even if the lather is slicker or smoother or whatever.

Is the scent that different? I use VDH glycerin and Deluxe fairly often. Enjoy them both. But if the scent is not that different then not that interested myself to pay anymore.

I'm using an $8 Van Der Hagen Boar brush that puts lather where it's supposed to be and my go to soap is Williams.
If it ain't broke why fix it ?
I can't get excited about a soap's scent, that's wasted on me....if you're talking after shave then scent matters a lot.

I have a bunch of shaving stuff but most people know my signature shave is Williams. VDH boar and Aqua Velva Ice blue.

(sigh) That's the way I started and it lasted for many months, but it's a slippery slope. Especially if you hang around us.

If it ain't broke why fix it ? I agree. I experiment with different soaps and razors, a lot of people do, but I think the bad experiences many have is due to their experimentation. Why not get use to a razor and blade, use the same SE and soap for a month or more, heck, use the same soap til it's gone!

You got that right.... look around the hutch and you see the truth.. around 90 razors.. 20+ soaps and creams... 10+ brushes 25 or more aftershaves.. not to mention bowls and such...sigh.. but what can ya do???

I saw it at a Walgreen's for the first time the other day. The badger seemed pretty nice. The soap had a neutral scent at best. I think it was about $30 for the set. Not too bad a price but I'm not exactly chomping at the bit to buy it.

Uhhuh The regular set cost under $10 and works well. No need for the expense me thinks. ( sigh. But I will probably pick one up when I see it)

My VDH brush has helped me to see I prefer boar to badger. It's sort of ratty looking but performs like a champ. So after saying if it ain't broke don't fix it a couple of days ago and having no real reason to buy a 2nd brush I decided to try a something else to see what exists beyond the world of Walgreens. My limited research concluded that a Semogue 830 should be a good fit.I found it at a solid online vendor for 1/3 less money than most others are asking shipped to my home.Pretty sure my brush extravagance will begin and end dead in it's tracks right there.Somebody shoot me if I'm wrong....

I would definitely try the VDH luxury items. I have been very pleased with their deluxe shave puck and have no reason to believe that the 'high end' unscented soap would not be better. hard to tell about the brush though. You can pluck some pretty soft hairs off the arse of a badger and have a floppy crappy brush. I would be less confidant in their brush because they will have had to plug in cheap knots to keep their retail price down. So, no on the brush for me.
The Semogue 830 - have heard good stuff and it should be a sensible boar brush purchase I would imagine. I presonally prefer boar without the painted stripe. I figure the paint breaks down and goes into my skin to some degree so I prefer to avoid that. Their 820 may well be the same knot wihout the paint, but hard to tell because they talk about prevmium vs luxury knots. Not sure if there is much to that or not. I would be skeptical though.
I use a large omega pro with the black/chrome handle. A really good brush in my opinion and I couldn't live without it. Now horse hair......... : )
