My lucky streak finally ran out,I have had some amazingly good experiences with acquisitions on the bay at fair prices, all solid stuff, most look even better in person when they arrived than their online pictures. But this '14 unfortunately arrived with the small "spring blade" piece that's under the blade cover BEARLY hanging on by a thread,so basically it's non functional at least as it's designed to be.Other than that the razor's in real nice condition as is the case and blade boxes.
Any thoughts on repair by soldering brass or using metal epoxy ?

i wouldnt bother, a ton of work for a POSSIBLE fix..... request refund.... Tons of 14s out there just waiting on a new loving home. I went through the EXACT same same problem... EXACT to the letter. Send ya pics if you want. Give you one guess what type razor it was.

But then again, if you could figure an easy repair that would be great info. Although, I can't see epoxy working and a solder would be pretty tricky. So..... maybe the other advice is spot on.
(If it makes you feel better I recently got intrigued by a razor on ebay that I thought was in the coolest case I had seen - when it got here it turned out to be some sort of deodorant case. Ack!! Buyer beware!!!)

Good advise gentlemen.I wasn't into much money on this and was tempted let it slide and see if I could repair it.Willie B's right......Realistically:(a possible fix) That brought me back to Earth. At first glance hell of a nice score if the spring tabs were anchored properly.
Right Rocketman,I was thinking maybe I could learn something by trying to repair it.
Like you said wchnu, lot more 14's out there.
As much as I love the 14's this did highlight the fact that this is a vulnerable part of those particular razors.
It was listed as a no returns accepted deal but the seller was completely cool and already issued a refund,I'll get it to the Post Office first thing tomorrow.

Hoped you learned to ASK QUESTIONS about the condition of the razor next time. DO NOT, I say DO NOT, buy anything from ebay unless you have asked all the questions that need to be asked. DO NOT depend solely on the pix and/or the description in the listing. If you would have asked about the condition of the razor in this case you would have saved yourself some headache.
As for the seller stating No Returns, I do believe that is meant to avoid the problem of "buyer's remorse" rather than an item that is not as listed or arrives to the buy in broken or not as described condition.
Ebay rules require the seller in those cases to make things right with the buyer. Must accept returns, refund the purchase price and shipping, and so on. This is not buyer's remorse.
Also when it comes to shipping a damaged or not as described item back to a seller, the seller should pay the cost of shipping back to him/her.
Finally, if an item is shipped with insurance and arrives damaged, it is the seller's responsibility to make the insurance claim. Ebay requires all sellers to assure that the item sold arrives to the buyer in the condition advertised in the listing.
While I have never experienced any problems with ebay purchases, I have been able to avoid such problems by asking questions of the seller and asking for more pix if needed. Much of my advice comes from seeing and reading about the problems some of my fellow cast iron cookware friends have experience with cast iron cookware (which is very brittle and fragile despite its heft) arriving broken or not as advertised in the listing. I many cases the result was not as easy to correct as razorx had in this case.
The other way to avoid these problems is to just not buy from ebay. That is what I do.

I hear ya Possum, there's better places than ebay, but I've done well.Like I said in the original post, usually stuff arrives as good or better than expected from the listings. I've asked questions and requested pics when necessary,it seems to be popular in many razors listings lately to show every possible angle except a decent shot of the blade cover. There were a lot of pics of this '14 including the area of interest and a also a comprehensive description.Shit happens, the seller could have been trying to slip something by or could be as innocent as a piece of a cleaning rag catching on the tab while wiping it down before packing.Except for the tabs everything else including case and metal blade boxes were in close to like new condition.Damn shame this little piece of shaving history bit the dust. I know what the No Returns designation represents,I don't assume the sellers always do.But it won't stop a determined buyer from finding a way to make a bad case of buyer's remorse go away. Speaking of sellers,in a lot of ways it's probably easier for the seller to get screwed over.A buyer can dishonestly substitute items or parts etc, etc… and then find some bogus way to justify a return. For buyers- Worst case scenario, there's always ebay's buyers protection program. pages.ebay.com/help/buy/protection-programs.htmlThe razor sites and ebay are about my only options, not much chance of finding anything in the wild around here.I expect it's much better out there in Pennsylvania.I've got a few friends there that we get together with from time to time on motorcycles, been out there a few times over the past years, some fine riding out there for sure.People around PA seem to hang on to the old stuff a lot more than the yuppie infested area I live in.
