Nice mugs. I wonder how the shaving powder worked.. did it work into a lather??
The Uncle Egglebert's mug says net weight 8 oz. I would guess that means it did contain a soap puck at one time. I know nothing about it though.

Pics of an "Old" Old Spice Mug I recently acquired. It is a pottery mug made by the A. E. Hull Pottery Company in Crooksville, Ohio. They produced shaving mugs for Old Spice starting with the original in 1938 and up to the early 1950s.The later mugs produced by other manufactures are molded glass products that were designed to give a realistic pottery appearence. There's a number of ways to figure out when they were made. The one I have is classed as Hull Pottery Mug 03 - 1944 to early 1950s Some good info here: www.oldspicecollectibles.com/Mugs/www.oldspicecollectibles.com/Mugs/Hull%20Pottery.html

That's interesting. I did not know that they started out being pottery, thought they were always made from molded glass. Will you use it or just display it?

Alan Alan I was thinking it would be cool to display but I'm going to use it.... Nice mug. Plop a puck of williams in it and go to town Thanks Fuzzy Ha! You can bet I will.Funny you mentioned that, the seller included some vintage 23 cents a puck Williams in the deal.I'm going to leave the vintage Williams untouched for now and throw in the fancy $1.19 modern stuff.

Dang, a puck of vintage Williams thrown in with an Old Spice mug, can't beat that! I have a dozen or so of the original Hull Pottery mugs, but this one is my favorite. It's the first model that was made, the Hull Pottery Mug 01 made from 1938-1941 with the Ship Grand Turk. It's the only 01 I have ever found in the wild.

That's the one to have,Grandaddy of 'em all, nice score Tom I like the Hull Pottery versions, they're a little more raw & rustic than the later glass models, sort of gives them character. I've got some modern Williams in the Old Spice mug ready for tomorrow morning's shave. One of these days I'm going to shave with everything:.....shaving mug, soap, razor and blade being some of the oldest stuff I can throw together.
