So I was looking at a Yankee lather catcher that I have and it was bothering me that the seam where the 2 halves joined was off a bit and it didnt join just perfect... Even though I knew this old razor had a crack in the frame, I thought I could give it a little 'twist' so it would line up better. Thats when it gave that sickening 'snap' sound and I knew instantly that I did something really bad... The outside of the frame was cracked right through and it was held together by the last tooth, which I managed to snap in half Pretty upset with myself for messing with it, I knew better. I have a wedge blade installed and you can not tell by looking at it that it is broken...it will still be ok for a display piece I suppose

Sorry about that but don't feel to bad. Over the years I've done the same with all kinds of things. I've finally learned to leave well enough alone. Anyway, as you said, you can still display it.

I am really sorry to hear how this went for you. A Yankee is tough to come by too. I have not yet got my mitts on one, and my heart would just sink if that had of happened to one of my razor harem.
As you say it will still make a good display piece and remains a wonderful example of an early safety razor.
I have an early safety with a couple of bent teeth - I was about to try giving them a straighten the other day but there were a few stories rolling around in my head like this one so I backed off a bit. I was getting close to saying 'the heck with it' and giving it a shot, but I am going to rethink that again.
Thnx for the story - and warning.

You aren't the first to do something like that. I bet we all have our stories of thiongs that didn't go quite as expected. I destroyed the finish on granddads razor out of love for it.
