This one of those auctions that looked cool so I put a bid on it and forgot about it until 3 or 4 days later when I received the "you won" email. I was the only bidder so I now have a Perfecta on the way from France. Looking at it I think it should take a modern SE blade so it should be a "user" Anyone know anything about these? I have never heard of it before.. Here is a link to the auction which has some good pictures Whatcha think? www.ebay.com/itm/170931587974?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Never heard of it but I'm not very knowledgable about razors from other countries. I really like it. Looks like it takes regular SE blades. Please keep us posted on how it performs.

Very nice catch! There are some great looking french razors - and that is one for sure.
It looks like it may well work for SE blades. What you need to count on is whether the width is correct. Some european frames are wider than the modern blades and the blades don't quite fit and almost fall out. But, it is more likely I think that you will be in luck with the width.
Looking forward to hearing!! Thnx for posting.

It looks like it's holding a wedge blade, but there to appear to be blade stops which will be needed for a modern blade. Nice score. Add me to the list of those waiting to hear how it works out for you.

Good day at the post office...this Perfecta showed up along with the other eBay lot. Seems like a really well made razor in very nice condition. There are no markings on the razor or the case..just "PERFECTA" on the wedge blade. Here is a bunch of pictures I took tonight, these are before any cleaning, "as found" so to speak Put a GEM blade in it, seems to fit good and doesnt move around at all Fairly large blade gap...might have to be careful with this one Going to shave with this one next...maybe tonight after I clean it Thanks for looking!!

Would someone else with Waits Compendium look at "Le Grelot Hospital" (Page L7) and agree that it's a match for the razor (the picture on the left of the two)? In your PDF reader, you can zoom in for a nice view. The case isn't the same, but I'd say it matches the razor.
Maybe not. Maybe my eyes are older by the day.

Greetings,
A fascinating and unusual razor, looks in super condition and probably only needs a scrub with washing up liquid.
I think the fact it takes a modern blade is really excellent news, and in reality makes the difference between a razor and a paperweight. From what I have heard others say, restoring honing and stropping wedge blades to a good shaving edge is a very hit and miss business even for those with the skills.
A great find.
Regards Dick.

Is the blade gap that large with the wedge blade loaded?
How'd it shave?

Well, if it isn't that razor, both of our eyes are failing. I'd say that's exactly what it is.

Is there anyway of posting that page from Waits? I dont have it and would like to see that picture..is there any info on the razor? I Googled Le Grelot Hospital but could only find straight razors Sharpspine- Yes the blade gap is the same with the wedge blade Shaved with it this morning and after the first couple of passes I was totally comfortable with this razor. Great feel, nice audio and super smooth. The blade gap works really well at capturing most of the lather as you can see in these pics Actually I am pleasantly surprised at how well this razor works, enjoyed an excellent shave
