Has anyone tried this? I bought a puck just to check it out. It has a great pine scent. My first attempt to make lather was not so good. I then used plenty of hot water and got a much better result. I'll try it out tomorrow morning.

This is probably the English "Williams". Most of the reviews sound exactly like Williams reviews. Some folks love it but many do not. Most common complaints are cannot make it lather, lather does not last, lather dries out, lather too thin,.......Hmmm, sound familiar? Anyway I found it pretty much performs like Williams does and I have no trouble making a good lather. However, the lather does fade a lot faster than most soaps including Williams. This does not seem to affect it's performance. Even with a very thin lather it provides a great shave. It rinses completely and leaves the skin fresh and clean. The scent is very nice but I could imagine one could become tired of it if he used it on a daily basis. Don't know how correct this is but this is also one of those old soaps that apparently had it's original recipe changed a while back.
It's a great soap but at $5 to $6 bucks a wack I think I'd buy a $1 bar of Williams and purchase some Pine AS. I think they make a bath version of this; wouldn't mind trying that.

If I take my time, am careful ,and use a good boar brush, I can usually get finicky soaps like Williams, MWF, and Cyril Salter (their creams are great, but their hard soap is a bit fussy, though not as bad as some claim) to lather, even richly, but NOTHING I have ever tried has made Lightfoots generate a usable lather. I picked up a sample a few months back, and the scent is great, but neither a horse, nor a semogue, nor a muehle silvertip fibre will make it lather for me. I've even tried adding glycerin...
If any one can get a good lather out of it, I'd love to know how...

The only way I got a good lather was to pour some hot water on it and let it soften up a bit. I then used a good boar and got great lather. However, the lather disapated on my face extremly fast; almost as fast as I put it on. The soap was still there, but no white foam to indicate that. Shave was good, but I'd still like to be able to see lather. Anyway, that's the best I can get out of this soap.

I've actually just placed an order for the bath soap, which I expect will be really great.
