As some of you may know, I had a brass OCMM that I wanted to like, but that I just didn't get good shaves from. A couple of months back I picked up a rare DE on the bay, and it happened to have a dinged up chrome OCMM with it. Well, I'll try anything, and stuck a fresh pella blade in it, shaved with it, and got a really great shave. I used it again, with a better lather, and got an even nicer shave.
I'm not certain if the chrome ocmm is a little milder, if my technique is better, if I just use more protective lathers now, if it is the pella blades, or all of the above, but but I am starting to really like that ocmm.

Great to hear that you are developing a 'relationship' with your OC!
I am still working on it.

Heh. This new one, anyhow, yeah. I'm not sure if the chrome really are different, or if ti is my technique. I'll have to get a brass one and see sometime...

Good to hear. Your brass OCMM may actually be gold plated, a lot or all of them were. See the ad below. There may be a difference between it and the chrome one. Look inside at the bottom plate that the blade rests on, every one of the chrome ones I've had have two small bumps, while a lot of the brass/gold ones don't. Those bumps change the blade angle a little which may be why you got better results with the chrome model.

Cool ad, I never knew that they were gold plated, though it makes sense. I sold the brass ocmm (hindsight is 20/20 and all) quite some time ago. Now that I know it comes in 2 models, I have to get two more, instead of one. Maybe I can trade for them...

I have a chrome OCMM that I really like. It shaves great. Checked it out and it has the 2 bumps Tom was talking about. Have you tried a Clog Pruf?

We grow as shavers too. But either way, milder "brass" OCMM or personal growth, good for you!

Y'all haven't seen me say much about the OCMM's
I got a pair of them both cased and in super fine condition from the same seller, paid practically nothing for them.Tried one,got a fantastic shave, but afterwards never felt much like using it and tossed them both into the storage box.
Pulled one of the OCMM's out and used it yesterday and again this morning. It doesn't feel "aggressive" to me,seemed like I was miles away from seeing even a speck of blood, just sweet, smooth and effective. It's a boring, solid, non descript ugly razor that simply and effortlessly does it's job very well.
Yeah,it's as good as anything I own Streamline etc,etc...

Methinks the marsupial is a closet micromaniac ;D
As I said earlier they are sort of ugly and they lack the personality of their older sisters,I think that's why I ignored mine.Funny thing is that I usually need a little time to learn most razors, yet I feel like I had the OCMM down almost immediately,I don't think I'll get much better over time with the OCMM,or that I need to..... it feels like I'm getting optimal performance right out of the gate.

Yes Marc, I think you nailed it... easy to use, excellent performer and boring. Of course that assumes one can use a fairly aggressive razor. :-) I read of lots of folks who find the razor quite interesting, and then decide they don't want any more bloodletting. Yeah, I know that surprises me too. I don't think I could cut myself with one unless I really put my mind to it. Or so it seems.
