Picked up this lather catcher a while ago. I have been slowly cleaning, polishing and picking away at the green corrosion that has made its way in every corner of this old razor. You can see I have a ways to go yet. It also has a broken thumb lock for securing the blade in place, it will never be a user which is too bad. There are no markings on the razor at all, no patent dates, makers marks, country of origin..nothing. I dont see any signs of it ever being plated, which is why it was so badly corroded. Anyone seen one of these before? I would like to know who made it, when and where. Thx Kevin

Can't help.
I'm trying to figure out what holds the wedge blade in place.

Yep...pretty sure it is...seen a pic of an almost identical one somewhere on the net and it was French. Alex/Brian, the little nubs at the bottom are there to hold the blade in place, but the top hinged locking piece to put pressure on the blade is missing

Did anyone get an ID on this? I'm receiving the same model razor as a Father's Day gift ftom my daughter, and would love to know what it is. Everything about it screams "French"... ...obviously I'll post pics when it arrives

Try page B4 (and especially the photo on B5) in Waits. "Bayard" And yes, it's French.

Actually, continuing through Waits the following are very similar and also candidates. None are 100% matches, but all have most of same stylistic features, including the floral engraving:
L'Alpin: Waits page L2
Le Sans Egal: Waits page L9
Le Taillefer: Waits page L9
Legrere: Waits page L13
Martin & Fils: Waits M7
Rex: Waits R16
None of the handles match Sleddog's. Perhaps the heads are all from one manufacturer and rebranded? I dunno. I'm thinking now that Sleddog's version is yet another variation not represented in Waits. The similarities among these are interesting, however.

Waits often doesn't offer dates for foreign and obscure razors. That's true with these. No date for the Bayard. The Martin & Fils entry opines c. 1905 and the Le Taillefer c.1930s. No other date info for the rest of the group. The heads on all of these are just about identical.
