Hey, all. I've used a couple of borrowed SEs before (A bullet tip, and a 1912) and loved them, but I've finally found a Gem in fair shape for my own, so I immediately joined the forum! I understand that Gems are difficult to date, but I am wondering if anyone can help me narrow it down at all?( Sorry about the poor phone pictures) Thanks!

Very nice looking 1912. My guess, from looking through a lot of old ads, is that they didn't start putting them out with plastic or Bakelite handles until fairly late in their production. I'm guessing possibly well into the 1930's at the earliest, because the ads and catalogs from the 1920's always have a metal handle.
Maybe one of the real experts here might be able to nail it down a little better.

Tom, could that have been a WW2 handle material in order to conserve metal? Just questioning, I don't know.

. I have several WW2 G-3 sets. That is the handle on two out of three of them. I think late production also.

It could be. I have one military set and it has a black metal handle.

It came to me in a red white and blue cardboard box that says "Gem Junior Safety Razor", "The Parade", and "39 cents" on it. I have no way of knowing if that was it's original box, though.
Thanks guys - Tom -

OK, that doesn't sound like a military set. Here's a picture of my military set, I have since found the box of blades that is marked "For U.S. Armed Forces" to complete the set, and I gave it to my son who is a military buff. The handle on this one is metal.

One of my military sets has the metal handle. The other two plastic. I have one of the plastic handles in a red cardboard box too.

Wow, that link was some find! Assuming the box it came to me in was it's original box, the price alone puts it into the era of that ad. Thanks!
