I like root beer. I remember as a child going to the A&W drive in and getting a mug for 5 cents (the big mug was 10 cents). I've been searching for a good root beer and have tried many, but they all seem to lack something. Today I tried "Teddy's". It was the first one I've tried that had the thicker consistency as I remember; very smooth. I also like sasparilla but that's hard to find now. Back in the early 70s I used to make a couple of trips a year to Maine and Vermont and would always stock up on Birch Beer. Probably isn't even made anymore. Anyway, anyone have any suggestions on a good old fashioned root beer?

Stewart's
IBC is good too, but there's something I just love about an ice cold bottle of Stewart's.

Barq's is one of the best easily attainable root beers for sure. Any Red Cream soda lovers out there too?

I can take or leave root beer. But I do like Hires or A&W when I drink it. Especially like it in the summer with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream in it.
I do drink a lot of "pop" and prefer the colas especially Diet Pepsi. But a couple years back I found a diet version of my favorite all-time "pop", cream soda. A&W makes it and I drink it quite a bit now that I can get it year around.

Souix City Sarsparilla is good if you can find it. There are some orher good root beers and birch beers I've encountered, all made with cane sugar.

I like Hires and A&W too.....Everyone becareful with the diet drinks...Aspartame is a neuro-toxin for most folks...and during the summer if a case of diet drinks in the trunk of a car goes over a certain temp. aspartame turns to menthol-alcohol...dangerous stuff...just be carefull...Just google 'aspartame poisoning'....My Doctors suggested for me to stop drinking anything with Aspartame...I know it's a controversey, but its still a very much alive controversy...Just sayin'.... On the other side...my Doctors have no proplem with me drinking regular Root beer....

My Wife and I got wise to that a while back but recently finally dropped all artificial sweetners except Truvia which we only use in bevrages like tea,it's not robust enough imo for coffee. Drinking my coffee black all the time now My understanding is to a certain degree aspartame, creates methanol when metabolized by your body. Unfortunately the fructose used in regular coke, root beer etc is pretty bad too,we've cut back there as well, what's called "Mexican Coca Cola" is the old school style coke with real sugar,it's available around here. Yeah I know,it could be said that everything's bad for you,my theory is choose your poisons wisely This guy's intense but right on,theyhave stuff they sell if you sign up for their emails, but it's easy enough to work around and get to some pretty relevant info.. www.mercola.com/

LOL if y'all think Mercola is intense. I do like to start some of my research there but beware of him promoting his own products. Once he has his own product all others are substandard. I've been telling people to stay away from artificial sweeteners for almost a decade now. They are chemicals which the body can't process. Instead it stores it forever, or until you detox. Once the stores get big enough illness and disease can show up in any number of fashions. If you're going to have calories in your beverages it should first off be real sugar. High fructose corn syrup is another horrible thing but at least your body can process it better than the artificial things like splenda, nutrasweet, et all.

Truvia is OK, but expensive. You can buy the uncut white Stevia powder, or even the dry herb if you want to go that route and make your own syrup. You won't use the white powder version as you do Truvia since it's 300x sweeter than sugar. There are some tricks required to use it in cooking and it won't substitute for sugar if sugar is required for texture. Too, it doesn't taste like sugar so it will never taste like sugar. I have a buddy who wants the sugar taste, and he can use stevia by the teaspoon, never get the sugar taste and want to use more. Bear in mind, it's 300x sweeter than sugar so his coffee is disgusting when he uses Stevia powder, yet he wants more. Now I never keep the powder out- I've learned. Instead I dissolve it in vodka and keep a 2 oz eyedropper bottle available.
I suppose you could google "Stevia" to find sellers. I get mine from Ameriherb since I have an account with them.
