Greetings Saturday 13th April 2013 Prep: Shower Razor: GEM 1912 Damaskeene Blade: GEM Stainless Coated Brush: Burma Shave Boar Soap: Speick Stick grated into a container Aftershave: Nivea Sensitive Balm I have at last managed to buy an early model Damskeene after many months of trying. I must say that all the hype is correct and justified, it produced one of my greatest shaves ever; certainly quite a bit better than any of my other 1912's or my later model 'Dammy' and dare I say it as good as the OCMM possibly a little better. I need to get a lot more shaves under my belt with this razor before passing final judgement, but it is instantly obvious that it is a truly great shaving razor. Regards Dick.

When I took the picture, it was not quite shave ready, but almost there: The Söndag blade of my new C.V. Heljestrand seven day set. Getting there was reasonably easy. The honing/stropping extension makes honing the blade fool proof. The Coticule is a vintage hybrid, and a reasonably fast cutter with the Les Latneuses slurry stone. Also in the picture is the Straight Razor Designs Lynn Abrams Modular Paddle. I tried my trusted Straight Razor Designs English Bridle extra long first, but the blade gave almost no feedback. I then switched to Kangaroo and Buffalo, just to get a better feeling for the blade. It worked. With confidence restored, I switched to .5µm diamond spray on the backside of the paddle, then 100 rounds on the Premium I leather on the front. The blade easily passes the hanging hair test with something between level 4 and 5. Which should be better than most industrial blades do - fine by me, I like my blades sharp but smooth. Wayne, I hope this also answers your question. I really would like to test shave tonight, but the GEM Clog Pruf provided too close a shave today. There simply is nothing to shave. I am applying liberal amounts of Bier (for oral administration only) to coax it into growing faster and will report back ASAPissimo.

And here we go. Please meet an early 20th century lather catcher. According to Waits' Safety Razor Compendium it is a Swedish razor sold out of Paris, France. Single edge, wedge blade, comb guard. Various sets were marketed into the 1930s. goo.gl/0lvxO The razor is silver plated. The shave was remarkable. The quality of the shave is almost exactly like one you would get from a cut-throat razor honed on a Coticule. Mellow, refreshing - the skin feels better after the shave than before. Also in the picture: Esbjerg's Sensitive shaving cream. The product is so good that I recently gave away the rest of my Castle Forbes Lime. But it is much less expensive. The lather, as you can see, turns into micro lather after just a few swirls with the 26mm Thäter Two Band. Of course, it had to be the Söndag blade Simply beautiful. And very, very effective.
