I recently bought one of these only because it is a fairly rare find. Not impossible, but you don't see them as much as some other SE razors. I am a huge fan of OC razors anyway, so I thought I needed to have one for my collection. When it arrived, it looked sad. I almost regretted buying it. Fortunately for me, it was just gunk that came off. Once I cleaned it up, the razor looked almost pristine in condition. Almost no scratches anywhere on the razor. I have tried the closed comb version of the Damskeene, but to me it was much like the 1912. Not that it's a bad thing. I really like the 1912, but I prefer something a little more aggressive. My two favorite razors are the OCMM and the ER Streamline. Both of these give me great shaves. I thought I would try the OC version yesterday just to say I had shaved with it and then retire it to my collection. WOW! What a great shaver! I popped in a GEM SS coated blade and tried it out. At first it felt like it was missing a lot. It was much too smooth. I thought to myself as I used it, that I could do touch ups with my Streamline. I was dead wrong! Although very smooth, this razor shaved me every bit as close as my OCMM and Streamline! I did a N-S, S-N, and a few touch ups. The shave was BBS! Just to be sure, I used it again today. Another amazingly smooth and BBS shave! It is such a great shave, that I may just switch it off with my Streamline.
If there were any negatives to this razor, they are minimal. The handle is very small. It is almost like you are gripping a pencil, but it is not slick. You have no problems keeping your grip. It is also light. I like the heft of the Streamline, so this was a bit of a difference.
I did love the "Lather-Catcher" design to this razor. It makes very neat work of the lather. I highly recommend this razor to anyone who has not tried it. It is a wonderful looking razor that gives an incredible shave!
