I was trying to post in the identification sub forum but do not have permission to create a new thread there. Sorry for that. Right. So I got myself a new Allegro Model E with K11 extension. With papers and everything. But I cannot find any information about what the two non-leather sides of the triangular sharpening/honing contraption are. Could someone possibly shed light on this? I am talking about the greenish, oblong thing sitting diagonally in the middle of the Allegro. Thanks a lot in advance!

I don't know the specific materials involved, but my Allegro E (K12 attachment) came with an instruction brochure and insert (you may have this but I though I'd share):

Kevin,
I have the first but not the second one. Mystery solved - perfect. Thank you very much!

Have either of you any success with this instrument?
I find that the blade does not make good positive contact with the stones and mine has not proved itself as an effective sharpener. Perhaps I am too impatient and give up too early.

It works for maintenance. Keeping in mind that the blade makes only limited (ie 5mm) contact with the K11 extension, what do you expect? A regular hone is about 20cm long. You'd have to drag the blade across the extension 40 times to achieve the same amount of abrasion.
But it's neat for maintaining a blade, and still moderately useful for small refreshments of the blade.

I've only played around with mine a little bit (I have too many darned toys). I got a NOS Valet blade to be a little less tuggy than I'd come to expect. I agree it's primarily a maintenance tool. I had to have it because my Auto Strop collection would be less than complete without it.

I finally sourced two of these Allegro model E but neither had the K11 blade extension... the K12 was meant to be used with what type of blades?

I didn’t pull the trigger as I wanted to use it on my wedge blades but both only have the K12 accessory which is not the one used with these... a real shame as one is in mint condition.

I have both K11 and K12 for my Allegro. The K12 seems to be for the SE’s without a spine, unless I am mistaken. If so, I would like to see a picture on how it works for Gem Blades. Tom

I was thinking when my Allegro gets back from the Pass around. I will see if I can make the Holder for the wedge blades. Then see if it can work on the Allegro L. It will we a good challenge
