I saw an earlier discussion comparing the ER 1914 and the 1912's shape and as to whether the back of the 1912's shape would qualify as a vestigal LC scoop....This really captured my attention, and I'd love to hear more of what you guys with the experience with these beauties have to say...Was Gem trying to keep the LC type thing the way ER diffinantly was?
I know when these razors came out, most self shavers were shaving in their room with a bowl and pitcher of hot (if lucky) or cold water. So the number of strokes between rinsing was a factor. My Pop; who was a WWII generation; who started shaving 25 years later, said before he went into the Navy for WWII...most all his shaving was done in his room with a bowl, pitcher, and mirror..
So I can see why a vestigal LC type scoop would still be popular....for practical reasons, not just esthetic...not to mention the soldier shaving out of his helmit....Shoot, I like to get as many strokes in as possible between rinsing...lol..But having never shaved with a real LC I've no idea if the 1912 design does have similar lather scooping properties or the 1914 for that matter....
What do you guys think??

I'm going to say no. The bottom of the 1914 frame is considerably wider than the 1912 and is actually designed to catch and hold a certain amount of lather in it. The whole area is round and reminds me of an ice cream scoop. The early GEM's also had this but the 1912 is more angular and tapers to a sort of V shape where the frame attaches to the handle, and to me, doesn't look like it was designed to catch and hold the lather.
