I picked up this Stag B754 awhile back and decided this would be my first one to try to replace the knot in. I really like the black and red handle, it's solid and has the little finger grooves on the bottom section. The original knot was a badger case, which I believe is a boar center surrounded by badger. It was kind of floppy and shedding enough that it wasn't really usable. I cut the old knot off even with the top of the handle and then cleaned it out with a Dremel grinding wheel, and managed to not destroy the handle. Based on Brian's excellent reviews of the TGN synthetic knots I went with a 22 MM.I used a bit too much glue which shows a little bit on the bottom of the knot, but it really isn't noticeable and doesn't bother me since I'll be using this one. I've used the brush twice now, and I really like the synthetic knot a lot. It's soft, but definitely has some backbone. I'm in the process of restoring an Ever-Ready 100 with a 20 MM TGN synthetic brush that my grandson is helping me with, he's going to give it to his dad for fathers day. This one helped me see just how much adhesive to use because I want the ER to be as perfect as possible. We'll probably get it finished next week and I'll post some pictures when it's done. I am now officially hooked on restoring the vintage brushes. I've got a couple more already picked out, just have to decide which knots to order! Here it is with the original knot. And here it is with the TGN synthetic. I polished the handle a little with some Simichrome which did shine it up some. When I get some spare time I may polish it a little more.

That looks terrific HT! I am impressed with the look of that synthetic knot. It looks very much like a badger. Really nice handle on this too.I can see why you chose it for your first run. May I ask an approximate price for knots like this?
I have yet to re-knot anything yet, but ive been collecting handles like a beaver building a new home! It is encouraging to see this. Thnx!

Very nice HT. I like the looks of the knot/handle dimensions. You have a winner there.

Thanks Wayne. The 22 MM is $12.95 and the 20 is $10.95, $4.95 total shipping for both.

Great job and it looks awesome! I may try to restore an old ER I have that was originally synthetic, but is bad right now. That knot sounds like what I am looking for. (I'd like to keep it synthetic since I'm a bit of a stickler sometimes.)

The TGN synthetic knots are great. I have two of them. Nice job.

Mighty fine work there Tom, I'm sure she will provide some luxurious lather, I plan to try a synthetic knot very soon. To anyone planning a re-knot, its really very easy and certainly a lot of fun! The TGN knots are affordable and high quality. My favorite being their short loft, in best badger ( I think ) that bad boy can chew up a soap puck like it had a personal vendetta.... Good fun!

Nice Tom!
Welcome to the syndrome of "too much glue". If you hadn't written it I never would have known. It takes remarkably little to get the job done. It took me awhile to get that through my head, but even those brushes where it happened work great.
I've tried TGNs 20, 22, and 24mm nylon knots and they all work fine. I wanted the 24mm as a head latherer for head shaving, which I no longer do, but discovered it to be a very nice, though large, face lathering brush. The synthetics don't splay like a badger or a Semogue boar does. If they did the 24mm would be unuseable for me. That characteristic of not splaying makes the 24mm useable for face lathering for this small brush lover.
Another really nice synthetic is the Muhle Silvertip fibers version2; but it's completely unlike the TGN knots. I had their 20mm in a travel brush handle. I loved the knot but hated the handle. I've since acquired one (20mm) with their a "normal" handle and I'm back in serious like. The knots alone can be purchased if they are contacted through their website. I have no idea of pricing, one would need to inquire. The Muhle v2 fibers are a bit more like badger than the TGN knots. The TGN knots are quite soft at the tips and then the backbone is quite sudden. It's not bad, it just is. It has it's own characteristics.
One thing that one needs to be aware of with any synthetic that I've used so far... They act like sponges when dipped into water, so go easy. If I can I put the water I need on my puck or in my tub of soap and I don't dip or wet the brush at all since it serves no purpose with the synthetic fibers. If I must dip the brush to pick up water I'm extremely careful to dip just the very tips. That took me quite awhile to get through my grey head... no pre-wetting the brush!

Thanks all. Brian, I'm strictly a bowl latherer, I've simply held the brush under running water for a couple seconds and then shake out the excess before I start loading it.
I've got an ER 200T lined up next to put a 24 MM syntetic knot in, and a Stag B752 red and white that is going to get a TGN black badger. I had surgery on my left hand Tuesday so it's going to be a couple weeks before I can start on removing the old knots on them.

Tom,
That is one beautiful brush. You did a great job to make what was a rather ugly brush become a stunningly beautiful brush. Use it in good health and also enjoy the time with your grandson as you re-knot the ER 100 for your son.
