After a weekend of voting, the Eyes have it. Namely the recent aquisition of the flying wing, has given me an opporturnity of trying out this cool razor.
Friday night started things off. To maintain a constant when I review razors, I use Cella croap, Shave Secret preshave oil and a new Gem PTFE blade. After my usual prep of a hot shower and a few drops of preshave oil rubbed into my skin, I face lathered Cella with my Omega Pro 49. The first pass down my left cheek (yes, I am a southpaw) was curious. I needed to check to see if I had a senior moment. Did I forget to put the blade in the razor? Nope, I check my cheek and found a generally smooth area where the lather had once been. I continued my shave until the first pass was completed. Overall, not bad, but not quite as close as my other SEs in rotation. Onto the second pass which is ATG. Once again, I found the razor was very subtle in its cutting action. I couldn't really feel or hear much of anything. Now for the final XTG pass. The seperates the men from the boys or rather the a favorite razor from a display model. I have an extremely tough curly beard with lots of grey and extreme random growth patterns. Down my jaw line is of a particular trouble area. Well here goes. Down the left, now the right, becareful I don't nick my mole, finished. Verdict...Once again not bad. I noticed some areas weren't quite BBS smooth, but very good for a first shave with an unknown razor.
Saturday and Sunday were pretty much the same experience the only change I threw in was different soaps. Overall, this is a very nice razor sitting squarely on the mild side of the fence. I does a very nich job of whisker reduction over multiple passes. IMHO, there is very little agression with this razor. In fact, it remindes me of an adjustable DE set on the lowest setting. However, do not mistake of equating agression level with shave performance. If found the shaves to be quite nice, just not up to my favorites, '24 ER, Damaskeene and Schick J3.
For now, I think I will keep the Wing in my rotation. The looks and preformance of this razor earned its place.
